    Charitable Donations

    Hi All,

Does anyone know if there's a way customers can make chartible donations through an Actinic store?

I'm looking to establish relations with a leading UK charity and although various methods of donation are being planned, I would like to offer customers a simple means of making a direct money donation.

I see this working in the checkout process with a dedicated field for supplying sterling currency values. Any sum entered into this field would then be added to the order total prior to payment.

If anyone has any sensible ideas, I'd gladly welcome them.

    Thanks in advance.

One option may be to create a new product template replacing the Qty reference to say "Donation Amount" and the buy button to "donate" and set the price to £1.00 with zero vat - thereby no matter how many people enter into the quantity / amount box it will equate to the same value wise.

You will need to look at the shipping model to exclude from adding shipping if you have a default product weight

      Hi Kevin,

If you find an answer to this, and it's not documented through this forum, could you please drop me a line to let me know how to do this within Actinic as this is something I have been considering adding to my website.

One possible method I have found is to use an outside agency called www.justgiving.com to collect the donations, but I'm not sure if this would have to be set up by the charity rather than yourself. To see this in action, look at the following page on the Cystic Fibrosis Trust web site and click on "straight donation":

It's also possible to patch the perl scripts to accept a user entered amount (not just a integer number of pounds) that will override the product price.

This requires some bespoke patching, so contact me by e-mail if interested.
