Crystal Reports

Having just purchased a copy of Crystal Reports V8.5 from ebay with the sole intention of editing my invoice and delivery notes.

Could someone let me know which files I should edit and having never used the software before how long should I allow, a spare hour or day?

Any advice would be gratefully received

The files you will be looking at are the .rpt files in the Actinic v7 directory on your hard drive. It sounds as though this is your first time wiith Crystal Report, so a very good idea to copy all these .rpt files to a safe area before doing anything.

I would spend time going through the Crystal online help and example report exercises before doing anything on the Actinic files - this will take you a week or two depending on how much time you can give it.

Once you are ready to work with Crystal, remember to immediately save to a different name as soon as you open a file, and to work with the renamed file till you are sure it does what you want it to. You can then save as the original report name to overwrite the production file and put the changes into service.

With Crystal, the secret is to persevere - its almost frightening when you first use it (memories of v3.10) but it is very powerful and actually quite easy to use once you get over the hump.

I have just installed and had a little play, Doesn't seem hard to move things around but may be more difficult to add new fields.

I will play for a while as suggested.

Is there any other source for Crystal Report 8.5 other than eBay. Version 9 and 10 are now the only readily available versions from our usual software suppliers.

I really do think Actinic needs to update to support the new versions of crystal reports with a matter of urgency.
