    Updating

I'm having trouble uploading a change.
after altering all the settings the page displays ok in preview mode. I then update the site and everything appears ok, if i refresh the webpage everything appears as i expected it to.

when i view the site from a different computer nothing appears and i cannot find a reason for this. i have refreshed the whole site and i still can't find any errors.

what can i do to get the page to display correctly and why is it appearing ok for me?

    Thanks for your help

You are modifying the actual pages inside of Actinic or the ACT_Templates and not the finished previewed pages?

Make sure you are not using absolute paths to your images that point to files on your hard drive and not relative to the website

I am altering the ACT_Templates.html and the images are stored in the site1 folder. the thing i find unusual is that absolutly nothing changes even though i have altered the template before and got the results i was after.

      Thanks for replying

When viewing from a different computer are your refreshing the page in the browser to ensure the local cached version is not being viewed?

What is the URL of the page you have changed so we can take a look and check what you have changed is indeed there or not?

crisis over, it is loading, not too sure what i did differently. theres just one mage that isn't working correctly, but i'll get onto that.

www.test4less.co.uk if you don't mind checking though, there should be a box labeled 'LATEST SPECIAL OFFERS FROM WWW.TEST4LESS.CO.UK' on the homepage.

          Thanks

Hi Olly - yes the box is there - the image is missing as it has a absolute path and is pointing to your C: drive at the moment

                Olly,

You will need to create a copy of the Act_BrochurePrimary.html with the code for this box removed. Save it to a different file name, and then use the alternate file as the overall layout on the more pages.

that sounds like the solution i need, how do i change the layout to the modified template?
Is this done by changing the layout e.g. sidebar down the left hand side. and altering that template
Or can i just select the template i want to look up from?

                  Thanks

We are talking a Home brochure page, right? Then the controlling template is Act_BrochurePrimary.html in your site1 directory.

You can open this from Advanced | Template Manager - if you are not in the grey button view, then click change view - on the brochure tab, click primary.

Find the code you want and either remove or comment it out by putting <!-- (including a space after the -- ) before the code, and --> (again, including a space before the --) after the code.

Click 'Save As', select 'All files' as the type, and change the name (perhaps Act_NuBrochurePrimary.html). Then go to each of your brochure sub pages and click on the select button alongside the overall layout box. Find and select your new filename. Apply.

Thanks alot, i didn't realise you could simply locate the file using browse.

                      I'll keep learning

If you modify several templates it may be worth adding an "!" to the start so when you browse for the new template this will throw it to the top of the list eg: !Act_BrochurePrimary_HOME_PAGE.html to make finding it much quicker and if you append the old name with the modifications this will let you know what it refers to at a glance and you dont have to remember the difference between say Act_Brochure1 and Act_Brochure2 which may make sense now but in 3 months time can be anyones quess
