Ebay Payment Customer sets the Payment Amount

    Hi,

Just think of getting my Ebay customer to pay thought my site, and avoid paypal. but with each item having a differant price depending on the end price how can the customer be sent a link to allow them to...

    A. enter the amount they need to pay inc postage - this we will have informed them of with an invoice.

    B. then to continue through protx to take invoice details and payment.

Thought this might be a bit tricky and could not find anything on the community about it..

    Hope you can help

Ebay own Paypal, so not sure how they will look at you for doing this. An Actinic solution would depend on how you handle shipping at the moment - easiest if you charge by weight OR have free shipping.

In either of these cases, you can create a product page - with no links from the main site, give out the url in your payment instructions - and create a product with a cost of one penny. The buyer would then order the correct quantity and proceed through checkout - ie to pay £44.93 he would order 4493 each. (there are instructions in the advanced guide on taking the buyer straight to checkout.)

I'm afraid quantity needs to be a whole number.

The concept is fraught with several issues:

          1. it removes some of the immediacy away from the ebay / paypal system

          2. in effect you are creating 2 sales, 1 through ebay and then again through your own site even though it is for the same item - if any part of the transaction goes pear shaped who complains to who - you or ebay? If ebay find out you have created a new sale from your own site I wager they will not honour any of the protection services they currently have.

          3. The buyer could in theory pay and receive the goods via your site and then complain to ebay they have not received their ebay goods - this could lead to negative feedback even though they have not paid for them either.

The savings to be made between Paypal and Protx is probably not worth the additional work and potential risks involved IMHO
