    Clearing Cookies at Checkout

I have come accross a problem where if a customer visits my site and adds products to the checkout, then decide not to buy (usually by just closing the page), the contects of the cart will still be there upon their return.
Once the view cart option is pressed the cart is cleared (as it should be anyway).

Is there anyway of making sure that the cart is cleared when the customer leaves the site? i don't want the customer to have to manually clear the cart.

At the moment the shopping cart isn't on a secure server, will this problem be resolved when it is finally hosted on a secure server?

Thanks in advance for any help

The cart contents are linked to a cookie that is stored on the customers PC.

The cookie will self delete after a few hours. The setting can be changed under web>configure defaults but you don't it to be too short or carts can expire when customers take a break.

If you did want to provide a way of actively clearing the basket by pressing a button or clicking a link please see this thread....

This doesn't appear to be the solution i was looking for afterall!
The problem is that the cart contents are still there when the page is opened again. if a customer decides they don't want to buy, they are more likely to just close the page rather than manually clear the cart using a cancel button.
Is there a way of using expiring cookies to clear the cart when the page is closed?

          Thanks

            Hi Olly

I have not seen a way of doing this, In Actinic, if you go to "Web | Configure Expiry Periods", you can set the shopping cart to be deleted after an x amount of hours. Set this to 1 hour.

            Kind Regards
