refresh rate VERY slow when entering product details?

This has only just started happening and I don’t know why so can someone enlighten me please:

When I am entering new products and their attributes, the refresh rate is very slow i.e. about 20-20 seconds, where as yesterday it was almost instantaneously. The refresh delay is set to very fast so does anyone know what has changed?

It’s getting very frustrating now because it is taking so long to enter the product info.

Compact your databases using the Housekeeping menu, then if that does not resolve the problem, check how much space you have on your hard disk.

If HD space is no problem (over 15% free space) run Windows Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmenter.

Less than 15% free disk space - you need to archive some data from somewhere to free up some space.

Thanks for your replys guys but I "de-fraged" my pc last week and I am using Dreamweaver to edit my site so the html/cgi has to be uncompacted. Also the re-fresh delay is set to very fast.

        Thanks for your help,

        Graham

Compacting the database is NOT the same as compacting the HTML code. Compacting the database does garbage collection on the contents of the access files that actinic data is stored in. Every change you ever made since the last compact is still stored in the database, just invisible, until you run Housekeeping | Compact databases.

Running compact can reduce the size of your access data storage by 50% plus and makes a tremendous difference to performance.

            Bill,

Thanks for your reply. I have just compacted my database and it seems to be a bit better but not as quick as when I first started building the site.

Any other ideas or do you think I will have to put up with it?

Turn off the site preview ie the little icons there beside the Refresh Delay - change it to the 2 column display ie simple view, then you won't be trying to preview the site whilst adding products.
