More customer data required

Looking to use Catalogue 7 for a simple online shop but need to collect around 30 pieces of customer information at checkout for credit checking purposes. The ‘out-of-the-box’ version will not allow us to do this …

Anyone got any suggestions for a cost-effective solution?

I've had to do something similar, although my solution isn't very elegant. I hard-coded the various input boxes into the checkout pages, and used a little javascript to take the user responses and place them together in one of the user-defined fields, which is then included in the order.

I have no problem in hard-coding extra fields into the checkout but haven't a clue about how to use javascript to collate the information which the customer enters.

Could someone help or at least point me in the right direction?
