    Automatic Shipping Rate problem

A lot of our customers don't seem to realise we have a selection of shipping methods. It is made fairly obvious in the checkout pages, but still they do not seem to realise.

This is (we think) partly due to the way the cheapest shipping class is automatically selected when the customer views the cart. For example, a user enters the site, adds an item, and clicks checkout. Our cheapest option, warehouse collection, appears in the cart. Obviously this local option isn't correct for most users, but because its automatically selected, sometimes users don't look at the other options and just check out anyway!

So, is there a way to stop this automatic insertion, and force the user to select a delivery option from the drop-down?

    Hi,

The shipping class selection is not dynamic and take the order in which they are created in the shipping area. You can try changing the text which is presented to the customer instead of the normal "Class of service", if you go into Design | Text | click on 'Go to' and type in -1 for Phase and 1 for ID, this should bring you to the Web (Shipping) area in Design | Text.. edit the text on the right hand side to read " Please select your class of shipping" or something else.

You can also try reversing the order in which teh classes are laid out in Business Settings | Shipping and Handling | .. with the highest value appearing first, but not sure if you would want to do that.

    Hope this helps,

      Cheers for the reply Bruce.

I didn't think it would be possible, so I've added in an extra line in the cart, underneath the shipping, which alerts the user to the fact that other options are available. I bet we'll still get some people who just don't read though!
