Design and Order processing on seperate machines

    Hello,

We would like to control ALL design and product maintenance of the shop on one machine, and for the client to only have order processing on their machine.

And we'd like to do this using just one catalog license key without having to get involved with snapshots. (They often crash actinic these days!!)

Is it simply a case of installing on both machines, un-ticking the relevant boxes in the business settings on the client machine?

In the past, we have had to issue snapshots, import them on clients machine and do a full refresh before they can continue to process orders...

Sounds like you want Order Manager

      The Advanced guide says...

Uploading on One Machine and Downloading on Another
Through checking either one of the 'Allow on this PC' options (under 'Business Settings | Options')
you can specify whether a particular machine is used just for 'Catalog Maintenance' or just for
'Order Processing'. This means that one PC can just be used to maintain and upload a store to the
web site whilst the other machine can be used solely for order processing from that catalogue.
What I'm not sure of, is whether this means that we can make design/product changes without the need to export a snapshot for the order processing machine.

      Can anyone advise?

        Hi Alec,

You are correct on that count, you will not have to send over snapshots etc everytime you make a design or product change. Order Manager or the second installation should under no circumstances try uploading or refreshing the store.

        Kind regards,

I have installs where all uploading is on from machine and all downloading is on another using basic catalog

Both PCs are uploading and downloading all day without having to transfer anything from one to the other nor the need for a refresh. the only scenario where this is a viable option is if you need stock control.

Actually you do need to transfer a snapshot across to the order processing machine if you add or change product details - but only if you want to use offline ordering facility on the order processing machine.
