    Shipping Classes & Zones

    Hi,

This is the first time i've ever played around with shipping a great deal but I have the following setup.

Royal Mail rates available to all of the UK (Parcelforce Zones 1-4)
City-Link as a courier for UK mainland (Parcelforce Zone 1)
Parcelforce as a courier for Parcelforce Zones 2-10
Royal Mail International Datapost for another range of countries that dont match with Parcelforce zones.

So I have set up parcelforce zones in my shipping tables as well as a royal mail zone and some datapost zones and added the classes to match, except Actinic is moaning:

The following regions have been defined in more than one zone for the same shipping class.
It is recommended that you make appropriate corrections:

So, it doesnt tell me what the problem is. I have several countries in more than one zone but I don't understand what the message is getting at. I dont have any two zones with the same countries in that have the same shipping class - any idea why its giving me a warning?

    Ok,

After fiddling for a while it would appear that Actinic isn't happy with the way i've split the UK.

    I have added

    UK Mainland
    Highlands & Islands of Scotland
Isle of Man & Isle of Scilly
    Northern Ireland
    Channel Islands

All as 'States/Provinces' to the UK in Advanced->Locations and having one state in one zone and one in another with the same shipping class with different prices Actinic seems to think there is a problem and moans, but doesn't know, or can't work out where the overlap is so it gives an error but no details. Is this a known bug? Obviously I should be able to have different prices on the same shipping class for each State/Province (It would make hideous shipping problems in the USA otherwise) but Actinic seems to think there is a problem.

        Hi Bill,

I've tried to follow that post but I can't work out if you mean I should have Countries called UK01 Mainland UK, UK02 East Coast Scotland etc, or provinces in the UK like I have at the moment _or_ do you mean I should have unique named classes for each zone rather than using 'Parcelforce 48' in Zones 2 3 and 4?

Ok, I'm gonna try and simplify things a bit to demonstrate the problem.

          1) Under Advanced Locations, select United Kingdom and add

          UK Mainland UK01
Highlands & Islands of Scotland UK02

          2) In View->Business Settings create a new zone called 'Parcelforce Zone 1' and add United Kingdom->UK Mainland

          3) Create a new zone called 'Parcelforce Zone 2' and add United Kingdom->Highlands & Islands of Scotland

          4) Create a new Class called 'Parcelforce 48' and add it to both zones.

          5) Hit apply to get the error message.

As you can see from this example, there is no zone with duplicated provinces but Actinic still gives the error message because the class used in both is the same. This leads me to believe that Actinic isn't able to check provinces, but adding UK Mainland to Zone 2 gives a more specific error:

For Shipping Class Parcelforce 48, Region UK Mainland is in Zone Parcelforce Zone 1 and Zone Parcelforce Zone 2

Which is correct - there is definatly a duplicate now and it would cause the same region to have two sets of prices on a certain class. I'm pretty sure this is a bug. Of course, It looks like I can rectify this by creating 2 separate postage classes and assigning one to each of the zones although it's not a desirable solution. I could also change using regions in Advanced->Locations to using separate countries, but that would also be a hack.

I can't believe that our US Friends haven't had this problem because if you make zones with different US States in but use the same postage class for them with different prices it also causes the same error. Hope this is a bit clearer.

I have the same class used in different zones without error - see attached. Have you removed the original UK zone? From all of your shipping classes? Or included UK in a Europe zone?

If each part of the UK occurs in only one zone, then having the same shipping class name with different shipping rates is possible and works for me.
