    Meta Tags

I am currently in the process of adding meta Tags to my web page. i know this isn't as effective as it used to be, but i think it is still worth doing.
The layout of my site means that i have a section for each product so i am added tags on each section.
because some of the products are similar, i am repeating words on each section, will this inhibit my page rating as i have read that repeating words can decrease page ranking.

any help would be great as i am starting to get confused about how i can improve search results and page ranking.

    Thanks
    Olly

    Oliver,
Repeating within a tag on one page may have a detrimental effect if excessive, but similar or even identical tags on different pages will not hurt you.

Out of curiosity I created a new domain with a single index.htm page (html/css) and apart from the title tag there were no other meta tags in there.

The page content was all natural organic text (just 1 site logo) with text link navigation that was fairly keyword heavy - about 30 links on the page linking through to a null (#) location. The keywords were not unusual (primarily Actinic based words)

Google picked up the site without submitting and the page appears number 3 in its organic listing!
