    W3C issues

    Hi all,

I am trying to make my site w3c compliant, but am having issues with some of the actinic tags.

    HTML 4.01 Transitional errors.

    <Actinic:BASEHREF VALUE="http://www.girlsofelegance.co.uk/" FORCED=1/>

    <Actinic:COOKIECHECK/>

and any of the NOLOGIN parts

    are showing errors

You have used the element named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not define an element of that name. This error is often caused by:

incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Frameset" document type to get the "<frameset>" element),
by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "<spacer>" or "<marquee>" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead).
by using upper-case tags in XHTML (in XHTML attributes and elements must be all lower-case.

Anyone have any ideas how to get around this ?

    Best Regards,

    Austin Harvey.

      Hello Austin,

You might want to check out this post if it doesn't come up in your search results. http://community.actinic.com/showthr...2&page=1&pp=15 I've managed to make reasonable progress in my quest for W3C compliancy.

      Good luck.

        Hi
I think a statement to the effect that Actinic is (or is not) 4.01 Compliant would be very usefull.

You can check your site at; http://validator.w3.org/ Your home page currently has 16 errors, some of which I doubt that you will be able to fix. I have never checked a "blank" Actinic page so I dont know if the errors are there from the start or they are generated as the site is built.

            Thanks

Thanks everyone, I have now just stopped actinic updating the home page, and fixed the errors, bit of a pain, but it still reads the section list on the left so does keep up to date, just have to update my home page manually now !

            Thanks Again,

            Austin.

              Hi Austin,
I have just made my home page (www.parrotize.co.uk) w3c compliant.

Had to make some adjustments to the brochure template, like NETQUOTEVAR:INCLUDE header.txt for the <head> info and remove all the <ACTINIC> tags, but at least now I can make changes which get updated automatically.

              regards

                W3c

                Hi Alan,

                Thanks for that,

So actinic updates your home page still, and it doesn't mind all the <ACTINIC> tabs deleted ?

I had another problem, where the Act_Section_Tree.js was 160K so had to create one manually, with just parents and childs listed, rather than the entire section list. So from now on I am going to have to update this manually !

great looking site by the way, how have you found Just Search Ltd ?? optimization seem to be working ?

Recently signed up with them myslef.

                Best Regards,

                Austin

                  Hi Austin

I guess you could use the "Advanced | Additional Files" to upload your script file automatically.

Don't recommend removing the <ACTINIC> tags other than in brochure.

Signed up with Just Search only end of Sept so very early days, but already showing some improvement and interesting ideas. First page for 12 months will be interesting!

                    Austin,

Just a thought, if you send me a email via Parrotize "Contact Us" page I will send you my template file so you can see how I organised the structure.

                    regards
                    Alan

                      Austin,

I've got an add-on that uses PHP to strip the section tree to 2 levels only - sending the results to an alternative file. It also reduces the size of that file by compacting repeated code. I'd been nagging Actinic for years as to why they didn't write a much more compact structure (whole pile of repeated "http://www.mysite.com/acatalog/..." stuff for example), and gave up and wrote something that does it for you. I've not posted this on my donationware pages (too much abuse there) but if you email me I'll see if it would suit you.

It only runs if the Actinic version has changed since the last upload, thus very little server load.
