    Quantity on Product Page bug?

I've installed a trial copy of v6 and uploaded the Actinic sample store to a test site to evaluate all the new features proper, especially the checkout process.

However there seems to be a program bug in the selection "Quantity on Product Page" which is used for the 'Basic Products' and the 'Select Items from a List' sections. After clicking "add to basket" you're shown your shopping basket for like five seconds and then tossed back to your original product page. There are no options at all! Is this really intentional? Because it makes no sense to me to show customers their cart and not also give them the option to at least check out. I would like to give my customers the ease of 'one page ordering' but they do need to be able to check out easily too. At present it's complete confusion that reigns.

I'm also surprised there's no date validation on the "Bunch of Flowers" product as it should be impossible to set a delivery date which is in the past! If this sort of feature is to be helpful there must be a way to make the customer select a time frame the seller can deliver to. We were once stupid enough to allow customers to pick delivery dates but had to abandon it as some expected us to be able to ship ground from California to Florida overnight and got mighty upset when we failed!

    Hi,

I find this equally annoying, There is a way of delaying that page for longer than 5 seconds. This is done in design options/shop defaults/ bounce page delay.

    hope thats some help....

The issue is that the 'Shipping Mode' in the 'Basic Products' section is set to 'Quantity on Product Page'. This means that your customers can select the quantity on the store page and add them to cart and they are added straight away. Your customers can then review their purchases by clicking the 'View Cart' button on the navigation bar.

If you want your customers to see an editable shopping cart that they can see for longer and change as necessary, then set the 'Shopping Mode' to 'Quantity on Shopping Cart'.

The 'Shopping Mode' is set in the 'Layout' tab of a section.

        Hunt the checkout button!

        Chris

You're missing the point here. I'm not really talking about changing the cart content. What I AM pointing out is that the benefits of 'one stop shopping' are dissipated when you can't check out at once but are thrown first to the cart content page and then back to the product page without finding any checkout button. That button you're supposed to hunt up on your own it seems which is not user friendly.

Look at this from the shoppers point of view for a moment! What benefits is it to let the customer select several different products on the same page, as can be done from the 'Select Items from a List' page, if they can't also check out in a simple and easy manner? Wouldn't it be smarter to instead of showing the shopping cart, which just adds confusion since you can't DO anything with it, display a different page that asks if the customer wants to either check out or continue shopping without showing the cart?

And speaking of checkout: Why do we need so many pages??? I can see that the shipping calculation needs its own page since it does affect the total cost but the rest of the information could easily be gathered on one page, both address and credit card info. As it's now the checkout is split to four page, five if it's a gift order. That's exhausting! I must say that I am a bit disappointed with this new version as I would have thought a more intuitive store the intention of the much touted simplified order process but no.

          OK Yvonne

I understand your point and it is taken on board. All I can do is say sorry that the software does not totally work in the way you need it to, and assure you that we will consider this whole area seriously when we next sit down as a Product Management team.

I hope the new functionality in v6 does go some of the way of making your store work as you need it to.

This is a v valid point, it does seem unnecesary to have so many pages which create confusion to the shopper. Especially the one which is uneditable I would like a page which pops which you can edit and also have quantities selectable within the section.

We are adding a step by step guide of how to order online to stop confusing our customers.

On the date range issue, try going to Business settings : Options and setting the default Product Date Range "From" field to 2002.

              Hope that helps a bit.
