How do I set up 2 coumns in the index page?

My client needs to set up 2 columns of product in the home page.
When I open act_primary.html I see:

NETQUOTEVAR:FORMBEGIN NETQUOTEVAR:HIDDENFIELDS NETQUOTEVAR:HEADERTEXT

NETQUOTEVAR:BULK
NETQUOTEVAR:FOOTERTEXT

NETQUOTEVAR:FORMEND

How can I get 2 products to appear side by side.
Currently its just one column with lots of white space.

Currently the only way to achieve this, is by using Norman Multi column product layout patch. This can be found at: http://www.drillpine.biz/actinicstuff/index.html
