    Pay Pal and Digital Downloads

My site uses Worldpay at the moment. When i was setting up the site initially i had problems getting the digital download to work (the link was not appearing on the receipt). I understand the download link is only set up once there is a return response from worldpay. The Worldpay link is now working ok but I now want to add Pay Pal as a second payment method (Worldpay is getting a bit too expensive ).
Does anyone know if the digital download process works ok with Pay Pal?.

    Another digital download question.
How can i arrange for someone to download a digital file for free (ie without going through the payment methods).

    All help gratefully received.

    Hi John,

To answer your second point first, you can get people to download a digital file straight from your site by selecting a product within Actinic then clicking the 'link' tab and entering the link.
If this link in question is a file on your hard disk, copy this into the parent site1 catalogue where your Actinic files are kept, and just select this as the file to link to (you will need to add something in the 'Information Link text' box for this to be activated). Hope that makes sense.

With regard to PayPal and digital downloads, things work pretty well except for the fact that after the payment is made, the customer must click 'CONTINUE' or 'RETURN TO MERCHANT' otherwise the relevant links are not activated, either by email or receipt page. Because the PayPal pages are not very customizable, this tended to prove a slight problem for me at first, until I made sure that customers understood this procedure before progressing to PayPal.
It's worth giving PayPal a go, because it doesn't cost anything to set up and test drive.

Hi Paul,Thanks very much for your reply.
I will be giving pay pal a try.
On the other issue. I have been able to do a download as following your explanation. Thanks.
The only problem i still have is: How can i stop the 'add to cart' button appearing. (I presume that because i have selected a 'product', the HTML is set up to produce the button). Is there a way of stopping the 'add to cart' button appearing.
I am still a bit of an Actinic novice. [My main worry about tampering with the standard HTML is that i may not be able to restore to the original untampered with HTML]. I once tried to restore the site from the 'site backup' and the restore did not work. Is there a reccomended procedure for backing up parts of the site before making changes?. For instance, if you change the basic design layout which parts should you backup before making the change and how should you go about performing the backup.
I appreciate i have deviated from my original question somewhat but again, any advice will be very gratefully received!.
      cheers

Create a new product for the free download and untick "can be ordered online" in the general tab ... then follow the advice above so when the user clicks on the link you have created it will either open in the browser or download depending on the file type and the browser they are using
