I'm really confused now... help please!

Hi Folks.

This is my second Actinic site I've built, so you'd think it would get easier! Unfortunately not..

Last time I used one of Actinic's recommended hosting partners and it was really easy to set everything up, as they did the server side and gave us the instructions for our local pc. This time however, we are on a very tight budget as this product is very experimental, so I've gone with one of Webfusions hosting packages, which still offers all the required services, but is about a 3rd of the other ISP.

So, if I use my ftp program to access my new account, I can do so easily, I can see my cgi-bin and everything as I should. However if I try to enter the settings into Actinic I keep getting errors. I've tried so many different options and it's doing my head in now! I would be much happier if I could just upload it via ftp - is this not possible?

Anyway, assuming it isn't, these are the settings I am using, can anyone help me out here? To be honest I can't even remember what settings I started with, so these could be miles out by now!



And this is the error message I get when I test the settings...

Actinic is not able to run the CGI scripts on the server. It appears as if the scripts are not installed. The most likely cause is that you have an incorrect CGI-BIN URL. If you've never uploaded the site, then you should do it before a download of orders. If you've uploaded the site ever...

I have to use the IP address as I've just set the hosting up today and the actual domain name probably wont point to it for at least 24 hours, possibly more. Is this likely to be causing me a problem?

Any advice appreciated.

Is it the path from CGI Bin to Acatalog

Never seen it like that, it is normally ../acatalog/

I know how you feel at the moment I've had the day from hell changing my site over to a new hosting package so I've been staring at these settings all day.
Its quite normal for your domain to take at least 24 hours depending on who your hosted with so this may be your initial problem.
PATH from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory is normally ../acatalog/
SERVER HOST under ftp details is normally ftp.yourdomian.com etc
PATH from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory under ftp details is normally blank
I would also try your domain rather than ip address

I'm no expert but have spent entire day with not much help from my host.

In addition to the setting Mick has highlighted, you could also try ticking the boxes for enhanced FTP and Use passive FTP.

BUT, before you do, you might want to visit the site with your standard FTP package and check the permissions on the acatalog and cgi-bin folders. These should be 777 and 755 respectively. If either folder does not exist, try creating it and doing the settings from the ftp package before you go any further.

You could also try your settings under Web, Configure Web Site Details. If you leave both boxes unticked, then the wizard will offer you a chance to try different settings where it has a problem.

I think I'll wait for the domain to be setup properly before I try again, as using the IP address probably adding another layer of confusion that I could well do without!

Then I'll try your solutions, and report back.
