PayPal Website Payments - manually entering card details

    Hi

I've just put our shop live, and have come across something which I'm a tad confused about. But then again I'm dim

We have quite a lot of people who see our items but would rather ring up to place the order. So what I planned to do was process their order through the site myself, so I can use the PayPal website payments. The only problem when people phone is that they're usually looking for a deal, so I need to be able to maybe shave a bit off the price at some point in the process. Is this possible?

Or would it be easier to create an offline order in Actinic, but then I don't know how to process the card details using PayPal website payments.

I hope this makes some form of sense. Probably not, knowing me!

    Cheers
    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Well, it's a bit clumsy, but since PayPal allows immediate partial refunds, you could put through the order (at full price), then refund how ever much you have agreed to slice off.
Your customer would then receive two emails, one saying they've made a payment (for the full price) and then another email saying they've been presented with a partial refund.
You may have to explain this procedure to your customer before proceeding, just in case there's a slight delay between payment and refund.

Or I expect someone else can come up with something cleverer.

Since doing a Paypal process would mean you need the customer's Paypal registration and password, I would expect this to be impossible.

Do you have a Merchant ID and could you use a PSP? Most provide a method for you to process offline payments. I can only speak for Protx, but their process is simple and quick.

In fact I don't think you would need a customer's PayPal password and registration, as PayPal now (as of last year) allows customers to pay without creating an PayPal account. This option just sends you through a standard checkout procedure, so as long as you have the customer's address and credit card details I think this option (as I've described it above) should work.

Yes, you are right. Forgot that Paypal had changed model .... put it down to a senile moment

PSP online terminal is just a cleaner option.

Cheers folks, I think the partial refund may be the way forward for the time being.

If I could create an offline order, I could make an adjustment to get the price right before processing the card, but I don't think PayPal has an online terminal as such (or does it - anyone have any ideas?). I have access to an online terminal with Barclaycard, but their fees are way way higher than what PayPal charge us (we also sell through eBay).

Many thanks for your help so far.

Check out the Paypal process - if all it asks for is the total charge, then offline order to make the adjustment first would work fine.

                Just spotted this post http://community.actinic.com/showpos...78&postcount=4

User posts that there is a problem trying to process a payment with a card tied to a paypal account except with username/password.
