    Splitting a Site Map

Is there a way of splitting up a sitemap?

Ideally I'm looking for a sitemap that starts with just Sections, which links to additional sitemaps detailing all the products in that Section.

    Any ideas welcome!

    Hi Carl,

Whay would you want the site map to function this way? Is it to improve the extent of spidering on search engines? Reson for me asking is that the site map by default shows the sections and sub-sections within them, clicking on one of the links will result in you being taken to the page with the products.

    Kind regards,

      Thanks for your reply Bruce.

Basically, yes, to improve SE spidering. My sitemap currently shows Sections with SubSections listed underneath all on one page. I think the problem I may have is that my SubSections are basically Products - I suspect most Actinic users have more than one product in a SubSection?

      Anyway the question really is:
Can I have an initial sitemap that only lists the top level Sections?

Is that not the same as the top level page in the acatalog directory? They are standard HTML links and not via the cgi-bin so also should should spider perfectly to all the main top level sections.

In truth, a site map featuring just the top sections is just a section list isn't it?

So you could just adjust one of the JS menu's that are provided to create the required sections in the middle of the page.
          "OK Venus?"
          "OK Steve!"
          "Right then, lets go!

Steve - wouldn't that go via the cgi-bin?

We both gave the same answer in that the top level section page/list is the same as a site map showing top sections only and these do not go via the cgi-bin... so a link to that would give the same effect.. although as Bruce says it is of no real obvious benefit or need as search engines will spider that page and the site map anyhows.
