    Hide Section to ALL

    Hi,

I have read just about every article on the forum and knowledgebase and cant seem to find the answer.

I need to put all 4000 products in a single section (I know this is not a good idea but more will be revealed). Then I need to have this section hidden on the website to stop EVERYONE gaining access to the section.

Once the products are in the single section, their duplicates will be categorised in various other subsections.

How can I have the page generated by Actinic, and uploaded to the site but invisible to ALL. I have tried the redirect from page 59 AUG, I have looked at the generate the page, then hide on website but use the preview page as an upload (too cumbersome for my client)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

I've just tried this on my test site. If I hide a section then the products in that section do not get uploaded, but my duplicate of the item which is in another section does get uploaded and can be purchased.

Not tried it but can you not just click on the "hide on web" section in the product description and still duplicate it somewhere else

i.e. you don't hide the section just the product

Not the solution I was looking for

        Hi,

Thanks for the help so far, but unfortunately it is not the solution i was looking for.

I understand that if you 'hide on' website, Actinic does not generate the page nor does it upload the products since the page is not present. Although it does not effect the duplicates.

I really need the page with all 4000 original products to be generated although I want to make it invisible to ALL users of the site. (I have a client with a very specific requirement to do this).

What we dont want to do is go through every product and unclick the 'visible' tab for every product and every different customer group.

Sure there must be a way of having a section loaded to the site and not visible to all the different types of user? Or am I missing something?

You could hide the section containing the products perhaps?

I don't understand why you would want to have the page loaded to the site but yet invisible.

Do you want a customer group to only see a particular section (of duplicates)?

Actinic uses an Access database ActinicCatalog.mdb that contains all product, section and other data.

You could always use an Access update query to set all appropriate flags. Have a look in the "Product" table - where the bSuppressHTML (the Hide on Web Site flag) and Can be ordered online fields may be of interest.

            Make backups before changing anything.

Thanks so far but I still dont have the solution I need.

I have written the problem in a little more detail:-

The duplicates are to be seen by everyone, including customer groups.

The reason to have the page loaded but not accessible is to overcome the single SID external posting to the cart.

I have a written a variable form that produces the products required but in order for it to be posted to the cart, all the products need to reside in a single SID. Therefore, ALL the products need to be in a single section. This is to enable the external form to work correctly. However, I do not wish the world to SEE the section with all the products listed.

ON the other hands, I need the duplicates to be located in numerous category sections so that EVERYONE can order the products as normal.

This is th ereason, I need Actinic to automatically produce the section with all the products, but not allow anyone to view that section. Hide on the website removes the section, NOTINB2B only works for customer groups etc.

              Any other ideas??

Isn't that your answer - a customer group that no-one belongs to?

                  Bill,

Thanks for your answer, but this means that I have to go through every one of 4000 products and associate them with the customer group that no belongs to. Also every time my client adds a product we have to also ensure it is ticked in the correct section.

Is there any easier way to make a section invisible to all?

You can try my #6 suggestion but #5 simply reminds that it is possible to hide an entire Section with a single tick.
