    folder permissions

My site has been working for a while, but on trying to do a refresh upload i have the following error:
"Actinic is unable to upload to the site using the FTP protocol"

When running the Test on network setup I get the error:
The "acatalog" directory exists but is locked due to the directory's permissions. Actinic can not work with these settings. Press Cancel if you would like to manually change the permissions and re-run the test. Press Retry if you would like Actinic to attempt to change the permissions and rerun the test.

I have tried setting the permissions to 777 but still get the same error.

What else should the acatalog settings be set to? There is ample free file space.

Any urgent help would be greatly appreciated as the site is down at the moment.

Can I safely delete the acatalog directory manually, then attempt a new upload?

      thanks thats a useful reference.

But can I safely delete the acatalog directly prior to a refresh?

yes you can if you aqre doing a full refresh, as it replaces everything in the site. the folder, or a file, may be corrupt. Manually deleting would solve the problem if it is.
