You can't set negative prices so you need to either build up from a base price or try overriding the prices to use component prices that are set as the total amount and not as the upgrade price.
hiya, sorry about that .. I was getting myself in a right pickle for a while and the question I originally placed (and erased) was starting to get very long winded ... and after posting it I starting coming at the problem from a differnt angle which started to work so I didn't want to waste anyone's time.
mm .. discovered the best way was to make the base product excl. any arms and add them as components with a permutaion setting so they were radio buttons .. for the optional extras, placing them as components with tick boxes buttons (so a user could potentially select both).
this seems to work ok and I don't have to faff about with negative numbers (which obviously are a no-no anyway) .. it's all so logical when you sit back from the screen for a moment.
my only other problem is the way the page lays out so flabbily, with the options being spaced apart from each other. but wandering though the templates using the actinic extension it's getting a bit better (still a bit loose but for now it may have to do). I don't suppose you have heard if the extension is yet compatible with dreamweaver 8 have you?
thanks for the response in any case, it confirmed what I was starting to find by trial and error (do lots of those!)
I see my name being banded about so it must be a follow on thread from something I plonked up a while ago - I hadn't seen the additional comments which had been added .. I'll have a look and see if I can get it working (it certainly didn't the last time I tried and I am pretty sure I had deselected the compact stuff).
I could see the actinic icons in design view, but the property inspector wasn't then coming up with the stuff it does in DWmx2004 which helps identify templates and get to them to amend. If it now does it will be great.
