    default stock level problem

Nearly all of my stock items have my default stock warning set to level below 1.

I have a small number of items which I do not hold in stock and get to order so want to set the warning given at below 0 for these few items. However, when I manually enter 0 in the warn if below box it will not remove the 'use default value of 1' and resorts back to that setting.

Changing the [1] to 0 in the stock listing is also ignored.

It lets me change from the default to other amounts where required without any problem but the 0 triggers the default every time.

I do not want to disable the default [1] setting as this applies to the majority of items.
    Graham

What happens if you set the default to -1 and then set a quantity of 1 or 2 on an item where you do have stock?

That's a possibility, it's just that out of about 200 items, 190 of them need to be set to 1, a few more than 1 and just 6 at 0.

Also nearly all of the new items to be added in the future will be at 1 so I really would like the default left where it is.

        Graham,

Have tried it on a default store here. In Business settings | Options, Stock monitoring is set to
        Default "Warn if Below": 1
Default "Suspend Orders if Below": 0

On the product level, for a couple of them I have ..
        Warn if below : 0
Suspend Orders if Below : -1

This works perfectly fine and raises no issues. let me know if I have missed the mark ;-)

        Kind regards,

Thats exactly what I want(other than my suspend orders is set to -50)
but it won't let me do it.

The problem seems to manifest itself in the way that if I enter nothing in the qty box it automatically sets to the default(the box still shows 0 and the default statement is to the right of it).
It would appear that it cannot differentiate between the box left alone and the qty set to 0.

            Graham,

What do you expect to happen?

Default means - if I do not set something different, then make it this.

Yes I know and I can clearly see why it does it.

What I am after is a way for it to differentiate between nothing, as in a vucuum, and the numeric value of zero. These are completely different things.

If it is possible for you to clear the default, so that it contains null, then products based on that default would contain null, until you choose to override the default.

My attempts do do this resulted in a warning message. It would appear that the default warn quantity would also have to be null for the null suspend to be accepted by Actinic. This would mean every item has to be set by hand on the product, and would take away the safety line offered by the default settings.

This is not something I want to experiment with on a live site, so I will just leave you with the possibility to explore.
