I would like to create a homepage that has a completely different layout to my other brochure and shop pages.

Am I right in assuming that I would need to develop the homepage outside of Actinic in Dreamweaver and then manually put the links in to Actinic?

Also should I place the new homepage directly into the Site1 folder?

You could develop your own homepage if it suits your site. You could then place this SIte1 and add it to the additional files in Actinic.

Otherwise you could copy and then modify the Act_BrochurePrimary template to suit what you would like and set that as the layout for the (brochure) homepage in Actinic. This is what I've done on my site - some of the template content can then managed by Actinic; fragments & navigation etc.
