Just changed top smart theme from standard, few problems

Hi there everyone I just changed my theme from a standard to smart theme.

The only error I have had is on the actual product pages in actinic which say: 'createcolsize' is undefined. and the next error is: object expected.

When I go to a product in actinic it has no size and no colour in the boxes. Norman done an update for me a while ago in which the drop down boxes appeared and the full colour names appeared.

I have not uploaded the new smart theme yet as I still have some design and colour tweaking to do yet.

I am also trying to put a box around the images both thumbnails and product images, any idease how to do this? and make the descriptions of the thumbnails appear under the picture not by the side?

On a lighter note I am trying out a few colours and designs and have finally decided on the smart theme but im undecided on the colours, I have attatched a screenshot to this so you guys can let me know what you think.

    Thanks

    Regards James

You are using a Norcat generated site. Norcat uses a patched actiniccore.js which you should locate from the assorted files I've sent to you. Copy that file into Site1 and all should be well.

I've also attached a copy here.

to be completely honest with you I would stick to the design you have now and just tweak it here and there, it gives the site more individuality... isnt that what fasion is about?

maybe still change product layouts etc...

to me (and no offence to anyone) it looks better if the site doesnt look generic, or generated by a program.

This may just be me, but I do genuinely think there is alot of potential with what is already online...

        Thanks for the quick reply

Thankyou both for the reply and I would keep the design but we have had a lot of bad feedback over the look of the website and many have said how bad the layout looks etc and how unproffesional it looks too, we are only getting 1 to 2 sales a week if were lucky so drastic times demand drastic measures. This will be the last update to try and get the website working but thankyou for the compliment on the site.

Thankyou Norman for that its working fine now. I will send you that disk of my site 1 for the picture update this week.

        Thanks again.

Would love to hear from other actinic users for comments on the colour scheme and layout etc.

        Thanks for the comments.

        Regards James

          Hi James,

just taken another look at your site and it is looking much much better than a few months back. I would agree with whirlex in that a change of theme probably would not be a step forward IMHO. I would spend some more time developing the site further rather than ditching for a new sterile theme.

I would be inclined to put a banner or coloured background across the top of the site - at the minute you have a lot of text and the top navigation floating in open space - this needs tying down into the overall design of the page leaving just the product details in the middle.

From a user point of view I would anchor the floating search bar as this has a habit of obscuing the left hand navigation pane.

            Thankyou

I appreciate what you are saying about the current look of the website and i agree with what you are saying but I feel that this layout has had far too many hours spent on it by myself and Norman who has helped me graetly with upgrades and layouts etc and especially questions. I feel that by using the smart theme it looks a lot more proffesional and neater, with future editing made a lot simpler.

I hope this helps our business as at the moment all customers that buy are from our shops and that says a lot about the look of the website.

            Thankyou for your comments.

I need help on the following:
1.) Does anyone know how to remove the colour border around the product description

2.) How do I make the description by the thumbnails go underneath rather than by the side

3.) How do I put a border around each thumbnail picture

Thanks for the comments again guys.

                Which coloured border?

The grey(?) background behind the title and part reference and price?

The graphic table header with the product name and the thin side lines?

That comes from the Act_Primary template - open the template in Dreamweaver (which I see you have) and you will see the table in the centre of the screen

You had it open when you did a screen grab above

If you open the page in DW and click inside the middle table and then click the <table> tag at the bottom just above the properties dialog (the first one reading from the right hand side as it is nested) this will then allow you to see which borders or class has been assigned to the table and you can change or delete accordingly ... can't recall from memory which CSS class is being used in that there for the table but it should be obvious when you click on the <table> tags

                          Thanks, very observant too

Thanks for explaining that, very observant of you too, I must confess I have not a clue about html but I am getting rather good at dreamweaver after a £300.00 course and hours and hours of messing around with it.

                          Thanks again.

                            Please help

I can't seem to find how to remove the colour border around the price title and reference still. I looked at what jont said but I cannot make any sense of it. Does anyone know the exact part i have to edit or remove?

Also I now have a border around each product thumbnail before you click into each product but for some reason they all appear uneven instead of all being level and the writing is a bit distorted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

                            Regards James

Look for a <TD tag with an attribute of color="#xxxxxx" - where x represents six letters/figures - just before the text OR if there is no color attribute in the nearest <TD tag in front of the text, look for a color= attribute in the <TR tag or the <TABLE tag before that.

Remove the whole color="#xxxxxx" attribute. As always, make a backup copy of the existing template before making any changes, so you can get back to the current state if anything goes wrong.
