Shopping Cart Quantities

I am trying to build my first site selling rope.(I'm an actinic newbie)
I need to sell a length of Blue rope: Qty 10 x 1m =10m with a shackle on one end(optional).
Then I need to sell another blue rope: Qty 8 x 1m this time with with an eye on one end(optional)
my shopping cart displays 18m rope, 1 eye & 1 shackle.
I need to keep the 2 rope quantities separate.
In fact I need to keep all my duplicated ordered products on seperate lines
How can this be done?
I have created a workaround for this by forcing my customer to number each rope but this is not really satisfactory as a long term measure.

I am looking at this, but see no better way to do this than the forced method you have in place right now. Will have aplay around with it and see what I can come up with.
