Yahoo will review a site if you pay them. Your site has to meet certain critera and if it does not they will bounce you. Suggest you post your site url so we can have a look at it.
The answer to the real question is hard work or PPC per per click

Rubbish. Not total rubbish, just rubbish.
It's a good site with lots of good content (particularly text-based content) and www.google.com. Oh yeah, putting your site in www.dmoz.org gets you into google faster in my experiance.
You can, of course, also use PPC advertising.

you can go to each search engine and find the submit your site link and go from there. Most engines now require you to pay, all paid for listings come above free listings.
Google is the only engine where with optimisation you can get to the top - they also offer paid for adverts down the right hand side, and sponsored links! Mirago is free too
the best engines to bite the bullet and pay for are Yahoo and Looksmart. these 2 engines combined with google give excellent results.
Other engines which will take your money include Alta Vista, Lycos, Excite, Ask Jeeves,......but I don't really think they offer value for money
and there is Overture ppc keyword bidding
Oh and don't forget DMOZ...very important to help with Google

The value of linking
Hi Gavin
The very BEST way in my opinion to get your site listed in most of the bigger search engines (except Yahoo's directory & Looksmart) is to get your site linked to from other highly ranked sites that are frequently indexed by search engine spiders and not by direct submission. Spiders seem to prefer sites they've found on their own rather than those they're directly sent to. The often give such sites a higher ranking and index more of their pages than on direct submissions.
