V6.0 to 6.1.2 upgrade: Shipping Tables Error

I am very confused and have searched all sources & FAQs but cannot find an answer.

The problem is that we have upgraded from Business 6.0 to 6.1.2 to take advantage of the new discount structure. All was well until we also decided to reduce our shipping costs. The issue was that when saving the new costs from the Shipping tab under Business settings, there is an error, stating that the defaut weight cannot be zero. We thus set to 0.1.

All orders in the pending folder now error as "The shipping cost exceeds the highest band for this class of service. You may want to expand the tables in the shipping tab of the preferences." but do you think I can find "the shipping tab of the preferences"?

Next thing, the phone rings with a customer complaining that he cannot place an order. Upon investigation and upon checkout, we get an error "Select Shipping Destination - Your order has exceeded the shipping tables defined by the supplier, therefore it is not possible to calculate the shipping cost. Please contact the supplier with this information as they will be happy to process your order and will then be able to correct the shipping tables.
    Thank you." on the site.

I am puzzeled to say the least and cannot find any shipping tables. A last resport search on Google gives me a .PDF as http://www.actinicdownloads.com/v5/ReleaseNotes.pdf which refers to shipping tables, but for DHL, FedEx and ParcelForce, none of which we have used in the past.

So, the only things we have done is upgraded Business to 6.1.2 and changed the 'zero' default weight to "0.1" and I cannot figure what's wrong.

We have set the shipping now as "simple" to still take orders and have completely refreshed the site, but still the problems occur. I will continue to search for a solution but if anyone is out there, please help if you can.

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Solution Found!

Under the shipping tab from Business Settings, I have 5 shipping zones. Lets take "UK Mainland" by example. The UK Mainlane zone has 6 Shipping Classes, as First Class, Special Deliver, Business Courier by 5.30, Business Courier by 12.00 etc etc.

It seems that the upgrade to 6.1.2 complained when I reduced the shipping fees and wanted a default weight > zero, whereby 6.0 was happy with a zero weight defult.

Under 6.0, each shipping class had a weight in KG as zero as well. So, what transpires is that because I now have to increase the default weight of a product to greater than zero, this now puts the order *outside* of the "highest band".

The solution is simple, just make the default weight setting per product of 0.1KG and give a high class weight for shipping as 10,000KG (100,000 product lines).

A simple solution to a simple problem in the end, but one question. Why does 6.1.2 now now like a zero default product weight?

Panic over and orders are flowing again!

    Cheers,
    Mark

I was about to say I didn't have this problem and checked my site and it seemed to calculate the shipping OK.

But when I went to check my shipping setup it wouldn't let me select my standard zone as it said I had to have a non-zero default product weight????

So I set it to 0.01 kg which works fine. But as Mark says, why the change?
