    Missing order numbers

    Hi,

There are missing order numbers on our clients site, having searched the forum there seem to be a number of reasons but no definitive solution.

How can we tell at what point customers are abandoning their orders and how this could be affecting the numbers?

Thanks in advance for a quick response!

The main reason for jumps in the order numbers being downloaded is that people add items to the cart, start the checkout process, but then do not complete it, for what ever reason that might be, which means the order number is allocated to the shopping cart, but never gets to the full payment stage.

Actinic does not provide site based stats of where people are comign in and leaving from, but your web stats (dependant on what is provided you by your host) will provide some level of detail as to what pages are viewed on the site and generally the entry and exit pages.

To add to this a little bit.

From what I remember, Actinic only assigns order numbers when the order is completed, i.e. the customer has completed their details and goes to the payment screen. Actinic also creates the order at this stage, so 'most' of the time an order will be created even if they pay for it or not.

The one exception is when using actinic's javascript encryption for credit cards. There was (still is?) a known bug where the order number will be assigned but no order is created if the customer backs out without completeing the payment. This can lead to 'missing orders'.
