    top level section madness

    Hi

i am trying to apply a different template to the top level sections on index.html than on the other sub section pages. i have gone into design > options > layouts and for 'top level section link layout' i have selected the layout i want to use for index.html. This is not having any effect on the layout!

The way i have managed to get this to work is by setting my alternative layout for top level sections in the 'default section link layout' drop down, and setting the 1st sub-sections layouts (via section details dialog) as the one i want for all other categories.

This kind of works, except strangely when the index.html outputs the top level sections it displays the first one in the style of the sub-sections but subsequent top level sections appear in the style of the selected template!?

i may be missing something silly here, but getting blind to it now

    Thanks for any help.

Can you provide a screen shot or a url so we can see what you are talking about? This is one of those that is hard to understand without a visual clue.

      Hi Bill,

sorry for not showing the url.

      Here it is: http://www.metcalfemodels.qdk.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

Take a look at index.html. All sections except for the very first one are displayed with the template i have selected via 'design > options > layouts > default section link layout'. The hard thing to understand is that the first section is being displayed with the template set in the layout (via section details dialog) for sub sections.

I can get all my top level sections displaying with my template if i do not set a different one in the sub-sections.

Hope this problem is becoming clearer now.

      thanks for having a look.

In the Actinic Section tree, click on the Metcalfe section and on the layout tab, set the section link layout to Use Parent.

These section links flow uphill, the setting on a page determines what is seen as a link on the previous page.
