I have reinstalled Actinic and rebuilt the affected site from scratch. Same problem, but not with the two smaller sites. Tried switching off Norton. Tried another PC.

My ISP tells me I have 53db loop loss on the line; BT tell me the line is OK (they would).

My question now is, during site refresh, does Actinic require a good constant connection. Will noise on the line knock it out?

      Bob,

Actinic does require a good constant connection to be able to succesfully complete a refresh or an update, especially if the site is large. I would have suggested trying the enhanced FTP option but looks like you have already been down that road. The loop loss is pretty high at 53db. If this problem persists maybe you need to look at getting a better connection.

      Kind regards,

Assuming this is ADSL we're talking about then 53db line loss should be fine for 1Mbps but not up to 2Mbps which needs 43db or better.

If your ADSL is from BT then I'd like to know how your ISP is measuring your line loss (they might have access to your ADSL connection in the router which will sometimes measure this).

Were you recently upgraded to 2 Mbps and did the problems start about then?

I was on 512K with Netscalibur who are now owned by Clara, and had to migrate to Clara to get the 2Mb upgrade. BT said that was not available in my area but 1Mb was, so that was done. I kept getting dropped connections and BT tested my line from the test socket in the box where the line comes into the house and it showed about 58db loop loss. They said this was not suitable for 1Mb so I was downgraded back to 512K.

One issue is that I am now on a 50:1 connection with Clara. BT say the line has been upgraded and am going to try out 1Mb again.

But I often sit and watch the tray icon (Windows XP) blink on and off trying to connect.

This inability to refresh this one site only started just before I started this thread. Both the other sites work OK but are smaller. This one is about 3Mb..not huge I know.
