cgi-bin problem, v3.0

We have v3.0 installed, it's been working fine. We have had no change to pc, os or router.

But now we get error message, says we don't have permission on nq00001.pl file.

Have chacked the permissions on the cgi-bin and it's files, they are all 755.

acatalog is at 777.

We use Worldpay, sometimes the 'download orders' works, sometimes not. The problem is the occ files and duplicate or plain wrong files in Actinic.

Uploading fails, it always stops when u get to upload pictures.

Network settings seems correct, it's got tick in 'ignore passive errors' and it passes the 'test settings' test.

I have an error file extracted from the site, here are the contents, if this helps; additionally it refers to A000.cat, the file is there, in 'acatalog' and is recursed to 777 settings.

Anybody get any suggestions, please?

As you have not changed anything on your pc, os or router the only thing that is left is the connection to the internet or the server itself. Have you checked if anything has changed with your hosting company?

But now we get error message, says we don't have permission on nq00001.pl file.

When do you get this error (you say that the network test passes)?

Nothing has changed on ISP, we have no evidence from other apps, server webmaster also says no change.

The error message on download is:
The web server returned an unknown response.

acatalog folder and contents are set at 777, cgi-bin and folder at 755.

On upload, it works OK until u get to images, then this same message comes back.

When we uploaded the site, it was difficult, same problems. But we disabled all firewalls and it worked. Eventually. Now even that action makes no difference. So plse don't suggest to reload the site.

I have checked nq000001.pl, it allows for the image types that we are uploading.

I forgot to say.

The pc is WinXP Pro SP2, with XP firewall set, but Actinic allowed through via the exceptions tab.

Router is Linksys.

Hi,

The only time I have seen the nq00001.pl file be the only perl file affected by anything is because their is a module on the server called dos_evasive or mod_dosevasive. Can you check with your host if they have this module switched on, if so can they turn it off?

Thanks, now I understand (well, understand what it's meant to do, not how it does it or how to find it on our cpanel and disable it). btw, the version of Perl on our server is 5.8.3. not 5.002. Don't know if that makes a difference.

Just as a suggestion, but if you chane the permissions of the acatalog folder to 0755, what happens when you upload then...

Some hosts, including us, do not allow 0777 permissions on folders, as it is not the best permission to give as this provides user, group and world - write capabilities, and the most that should ever be needed is 0755, so would check that as maybe your host is enforcing something similar maybe.

Well, I checked with our ISP and 'yes' it is enabled. So they switched it off last night and, hey presto, upload and download seem to work just fine.

So, Tracey G, you are a genius and our new best friend!

Also, interestingly, we noticed something else.

When u start Actinic on the host pc (broadband 'always on' connection), it freezes at the Actinic splash screen. It never used to do that, we just assumed it was some sort of XP SP2 thing. After the mod_evasive was disabled, it didn't freeze/hardly froze at all.
