downloading orders problem

i have a version 6 which we usedto use, and have got it off from the dusty shelf, i have ran the website config and it passes fine no problems
the search scripts run fine
it uploads and refreshes the website.
customers sent an email to say there order has been received
we get an email to say a catalog order has been received
but when we come to download the orders it doesnt download anything just says searching for orders, and updating stock levels and locks up there unless i press cancel and i get the message "too few parameters. expected 1."

any suggestions ?
