    smtp problems still

still having problems with my smtp. ive told my hosting people and theyve given me a new smtp to try, which kinda worked. actinic will now send emails to me when i recieve an order but i still can't send the "order recieved" mail when an order arrives in.

    i get the following:
Failed to communicate with the SMTP server.

    Possible Cause:
    1. Network transmission problems.
    2. Could have Changed the SMTP Server settings, but not Uploaded after that.

    Recommendation:
    1. Retry
    2. Upload the Site First, if you have changed the SMTP Server Settings.

    Resolution:
If retry fails, check your SMTP settings
    or contact your ISP.

    The error was:
exampleemail@hotmail.com Error returned from SMTP server (4: relay not permitted

    Command: send Filename:
    -----------------------------

    any ideas?

Hi Steven - may be worth posting who your host is and the settings you have in place in case someone else is hosting with them.

Norman has a sendmail patch over at http://www.drillpine.biz/actinicstuff/index.html - right at the bottom of the page (note it is donationware) which may be checking out if still having issues.

        Have you tried using

        localhost

        and no username and password?

This does work for a lot of sites by using the servers local mailer..

thats correct, i.e. see if using the local mailer on the server works, so replace with

            localhost

and see if that works for you.

If not, you will have to speak with your host about local mailer options i.e. localhost.localdomain etc etc, which they should be able to tell you about.
