    strange 404 messages - security isssue?

    Hi
    does anyone know how this url relates to actinic:
    http://www.wildchicken.com/shop/acatalog/'+++ar[i].pChild[j].sURL+++'

    I got a whole slew of 404 notifications from this and similar page requests.
    As there is no referring page, I wonder if it is a temporary catalogue problem because of network etc or whether someone is deliberately trying to mess around.

    Thanks for your help.

    The last part of the URL looks like the Javascript function used to add in the sections and subsections into the navigation - that is part of the raw code that should be replaced with the page_name.html to take the click through to the right page.

    May be worth viewing your pages in FireFox and seeing if any script errors occur. Have you checked the source code of a live web page to see if it appears?

      Everything looks fine in firefox - we usally test for firefox and opera and don't bother with IE.

      Errors came up at 7.30am this morning nothing going on with site updates or the like - I saw something similar a couple of months ago, advanced 404 notifications for a list of variable urls like the one above...

      cheers

        Did you do something to resolve the issue? Had a look around on the store and it worked perfectly fine, no errors on the product links and the search results links.

        Kind regards,

          Hi Bruce
          As far as I know, there was no error with the store. Where I have an advanced 404 page set up, I get notifications of page failures and the urls requested.

          Here's a selection of the 404s:

          URL: http://www.wildchicken.com/shop/acatalog/'+++ar[i].sURL+++'
          Date and Time: Tue Dec 6 22:36:07 2005

          URL: http://www.wildchicken.com/shop/acatalog/'+++ar[i].sURL+++'
          Date and Time: Tue Dec 6 22:36:08 2005

          URL: http://www.wildchicken.com/shop/acatalog/'+++ar[i].pChild[j].sURL+++'
          Date and Time: Tue Dec 6 22:36:08 2005

          URL: http://www.wildchicken.com/shop/acatalog/se__arch.html
          Date and Time: Tue Dec 6 22:36:09 2005

          URL: http://www.wildchicken.com/shop/acatalog/'+++ar[i].sURL+++'
          Date and Time: Tue Dec 6 22:36:10 2005

          URL: http://www.wildchicken.com/shop/acatalog/'+++ar[i].pChild[j].sURL+++'
          Date and Time: Tue Dec 6 22:36:11 2005

          There were 24 404s in a 5 second period - none of them had a referring page which I usually use to find out where there is a problem link or missing image etc.

          Don't know what was going on....

            Is there any 'agent' info? It sounds to me like it could be a search engine robot trying to read the links and then coming back to see what's on the pages.

              Hi Mike
              I've just checked the raw stats and unfortunately, where there would normally be the agent info, all the entries are:
              "-" "-"
