I know V8 isn't coming out till next year, but are actinic upgrading the shipping functionality? If not then it's time to find a new solution, if it is going to be improved (a lot) then we can wait for V8.

VERY frustrating.
I understand and appreciate the reasons - especially commercial reasons such as competitors and changing market places in offering new features. From a marketing point of view this must be a nightmare - trying to convince people to hold out for a new product for which they will not release any information other than "it will be good" or "it's due early next year" must have the Actinic marketing team in turmoil.

In their defence though this forum allows folks to suggest improvements, modifications, and new features. Gone are the days when users were happy to work with what they have. I wonder how many (large) customers have actually `outgrown` Actinic since they've started using it? I fancy the multi-user facility but its simply too expensive to upgrade to it.
Maybe online databases with real-time stock control (updating pages when stock is used) will happen someday. (I do have the Mole-End add-on).
Finding the pressure on the `Actinic pc` is getting heavy nowadays...

Personally, for me, if the features and additions are gonna be so good and they have taken this long to produce, what effect would releasing info on them do exactly? If competitors are going to be copying what actinic is doing, then they are placing themselves automatically behind as they will be x no. of months behind already.
Actinic will surely be thinking past version 8, so if competitors do release something new with similar features, then once again they are behind as version 9 should be round the corner (relatively speaking).
Holding back info on yr new product for too long is bad IMO, its leaves you behind in marketing and also loses you customers as they are unaware on whether the frustrations of their existing version will be addressed, so get pi$$ed off and go get something new. I cant believe that something can't be released to companies currently using actinic a bit earlier than the world gets to know.
If you want product allegiance and customer base to stay then treat your current customers accordingly.

Will we be able to ship based on value to the UK and based on weight to the rest of the world?Blushingbuyer, banishing blushes since 2000.

"Actinic has run tests with search engines to ensure that a standard Actinic Express store produces good results with no special tuning. It has also confirmed that the dynamic pages produced by Actinic Express rank as highly as the static HTML pages produced by other Actinic products."
Could this be a taste of the future v9 perhaps?
Digging around further it quotes
"A switch to PHP and the addition of a server-based option are both possibilities that are under consideration. However, neither will happen in v8."

Bringing this thread back on topic, shipping in V8, will we be able to ship to UK based on Value, and to the rest of the wrold based on weight?

I would love to give you a direct answer to your direct question, but I honestly can't. The reason for this is that around this time of tthe development cycle, we see how our big tentpole features are shaping up for the new release (of which, I will say, your shipping request is not one) and see what else we can afford to do.
I have been discussing your issue with the team, and we will be looking at it.
In the meantime, I have asked Mark in sales to give you a call to see if there is any other ways we can help you with your issue.

Shipping Question
I want to sell products for download - AND - apply shipping charges based on weight (which is pretty standard way of doing things) But Actinic does not support this combination.
Effectively the product does NOT support online/download products mixed in with products that have to be posted.
Surely this is going to be fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actinic! Please, please, please find the time to revise the shipping in V8, there are plenty of threads on this board where people do not have the functionality that is required, it is a major weakness in the product.
It's all very well being able to design pretty sites, and to encourage the customers to buy more products with upsell, but if we can't ship the bloomin things to them effectively (which means being able to charge the right amount) then what is the bloomin point!
Specifically we need to be able to
1) ship by both weight and value and destination, not one or the other.
2)add a free shipping check box to the products so that certain products (such as downloads or vouchers) can be ordered on their own with free shipping, or in a basket of other products with normal shipping.
I know I'm not alone in needing these upgrades.Blushingbuyer, banishing blushes since 2000.
