    Merge Error

    Hello,

I have been having some hassles uploading my web store.

It worked the 1st few times but as of yesterday I have continuiously got an error at the last part of the upload stating
"An error occurred while sending merge request."

I have tried file purging, refresh and upload and requested a few changes on my server.

All seem to lead me to the same error, has anyone else had this problem? If they have what did you do to overcome this?

Try compacting the databases before doing the complete 'site refresh, that usually works for me. Often happens after you've added new products or made changes that alters most of the pages.

For what its worth, I had the same problem this morning. Merge error and no scripts working. Turned out it was a host problem - 1&1!

yeah turns out to be a hosting problem on my side too

so I changed the hosts and it all works now.

I'm getting the same error (yes - 1&1); does anyone have more detail as to what is causing this and how to fix (and no I don't want to change hosts!!)? Mark

You shouldn't need to change hosts to resolve this problem.

A combination of the following should work

1 FTP to the remote site, delete .fil, .cat files
2 remove .fil and .cat within site1 folder on your PC.
              3 do a site refresh

I often find just waiting a few hours and hitting refresh resolves the issue - probably due to busy servers and it timing out.

Despite the message saying the merge request failed I find the site has taken all the alterations and the next refresh only uploads anything that has since changed. It is not an error I am now concerned with as all works as it should.

Thanks everyone - before I saw Jo's reply I tried the "compact databases" idea again and it worked (although as has been implied, this might have been coincidental), so I have left well alone now. Mark H.
