    Button Problems

    Hello all,
I added some extra content pages to my site http://www.iluvm.co.uk. I created a new brochure page then added fragments. I did not want navigation buttons on my nav menu for these pages, I just wanted to cross link them from one of my other content pages.

I left the button and highlight image selection box's blank as I did not want any buttons in nav menu for these pages. When I had finished, Actinic had automatically put three "brochure" buttons by default in my navigation menu and I can not seem to get rid off of them.

Anyone suffered same problems or know a way round this please?
Or a way of defining which button/links appear in the NETQUOTEVAR:HEADERGUIDE.
    Regards

    Header/footerguide

    Hello all,
    Still struggling with this

Any idea's as to how HEADERGUIDE or FOOTERGUIDE determines which buttons it add's to the navigation menu? and can they be changed?

Also when I add NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBCATALOG to appropiate place in my ACT_BROCHUREPRIMARY it has no effect, no button appears?

The only way I have managed this is to hard code my own nav bar, removing the netquotevar from act_brochure_primary.html and act_primary.html which dictates where the navbar should go. I think you need to be using Developer to do this though.

        Button's

        Hello Drink75,
Unfortulatley i'm using buisness, I did try removing NETQUOTEVAR:HEADERGUIDE and manually inserting buttons but still using the NETQUOTEVAR's, but I could not find all the NETQUOTEVAR's I needed and the main one I wanted, would not work! NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBCATALOG link to catalogue pages.

As a stop gap I've create a 1 x 1 pixel gif and used that for the buttons on pages I don't want nav menu to link to, not a good solution but I'm at a loss what to do now.

get hold of a copy of the advanced user guide. At the back of this is a guide to all NQV. including all the ones you need for navigation.

You can use these links ie NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBHOME etc etc, if you want a text link for "home" then use NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBHOMELINK

you can do this regardless of whether you use catalog, business or developer

            Easy Fix

An easy fix - provided you don't use the brochure button anywhere else - is to go to design > options > brochure and clear the two 'default brochure button' boxes

this way there is no 'brochure' button and any page that does not have it's own button image becomes invisible in the top menu

this is a fairly straightforward way of overcoming the inherently flat nature of the Actinic brochure section

              Button's

              Hello all,
I already tried removing the default button's on brochure pages but all get then I is big gaps in my nav menu as atinic tries to insert buttons that don't exist. That's why I added a 1 x 1 pixel gif.
I also already use some of the other button found in advanced guide in addition to HEADERGUIDE ( T & C's and Search) but for some strange reason if I remove the HEADERGUIDE and insert the button's manually the NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBCATALOG doe's not insert a button?

Am checking this for you as I am too unable to see a button using NAVBCATALOG.

                  Button's

                  Hello Bruce,
Seems to be some confusion here, What I wanted was a link to to my product/catalogue page. I thought NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBCATALOG would place a link/button to my product/catalogue page. It doe's not seem to have any effect.
I already use NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBINFO NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBMAIL NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBSEARCH after NETQUOTEVAR:HEADERGUIDE which adds T & C's, Contact and search buttons to my navgation menu.

Since I added 3 new brochure pages to the site, actinic automatically added 3 "brochure" button's to my nav menu although I assigned no button's to these pages as I did not require them. If I remove the default "brochure" buttons from design > options > brochure I'm left with three blank spaces in my nav menu. I removed the NETQUOTEVAR:HEADERGUIDE and manually inserted my required button's but the NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBCATALOG which I thought would give a link to my product pages, doe's not do anything. I have the shop1/2.gifs linked to my products pages. I can not seem to get a button link to my product pages using the NETQUOTEVAR's.
Unless NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBCATALOG is the wrong NETQUOTEVAR?
                  Regards

                    Netquotevar:navbcataloglink

This also appears to apply to NETQUOTEVAR:NAVBCATALOGLINK. It doesn't seem to be being replaced with the appropriate link. Have we found a bug?

This is reported bug in the software. Checking with Development if there is a workaround.

                      Kind regards,

I believe I may have found a workaround for NETQUOTEVAR:CATALOGLINK, if anyone's interested.

I'm currently using a hard-coded link of: /cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?SECTIONID=index.html&NOLOGIN=1 which (at the moment) appears to work okay. I haven't finished testing everything and trying to 'break' the shop I'm working on yet though so I'm not sure if there won't be problems with it later.

                          Tiger,

That should work just fine as long as you do not change the Script ID number in Network Setup.

                          Kind regards,

                              /cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?SECTIONID=index.html&NOLOGIN=1
This is the solution I use when Actinic does not automatically generate the link I want.

Going further than this, if you want to set up the site so that the script ID and the cgi-bin-url are flexible (rather than hard-coded into the design) then you can use custom properties as follows:

Creae two custom properties (in 'Advanced | Custom Properties') called 'cgi bin url' and 'scriptID'.

Set values for these in 'Design Options | Site Defaults' similar to the following
                              cgi bin url > http://your.URL/cgi-bin/
                              script ID > 000001

Then create your link to your store page in your template as follows:

                              <a href="CUSTOMVAR:CGI_BIN_URLssCUSTOMVAR:SCRIPTID.pl?SECTIONID=index.html&NOLOGIN=1">...</a>

That way, you can edit the link without editing the template.
