    Entering prices inclusive of VAT

I want all my prices on my site to be displayed inclusive of VAT, and I also want to be able to enter all my prices into the Actinic software including VAT.

How do I enter a price say £100 and have it displayed as '£100 (incl. 17.5% VAT)' on my site without Actinic automatically making it £117.50 ? It's a real pain if I have to divide every one by 1.175 before entering it into Actinic.

    TIA, Tom

You can't do this in Actinic, the easiest way to do this is to put your products into a spreadsheet, enter the prices there inc VAT, use a formula to calculate the ex VAT price and then import your prices. There is a thread on here somewhere that tells you exactly how to do this, a search should find it.

      Easy option

      Hi there,

There's a super easy way to display £100 as £100 including VAT within Actinic itself. Simply use a calculater, enter 100 and then DIVIDE that amount by 1.175 = 85.10.

Use the 85.10 as the price and when you apply this in actinic your product will show the price as £100.00 (as it ADDS the VAT automatically if you opt to display your prices with VAT).

The exact amount of VAT is rounded up or down depending on the scientific formula opted for. Personally l just opt for the default and and or minus a penny in my entered amount until l get the price to display at the amount l'm looking for.

If you need more detailed advise l'd be happy to help but really, this is the simplist option and l hope it helps.

        Pain - not really?

Sorry, l just read your post again and realised you alreay know the quick formula for calculating VAT. If you think this super easy option is a pain then good luck with the rest of the work you will have to do with Actinic and running an online store, for this really is one of the most easy things (and pain free) tasks of all.

Yes, it would be good if life could be so wonderful if all things in life offered a quick think free option but to be honest, working out the pre-VAT price of your stock is one of the most simpliest taks involved with running your own business. If you think this is a pain just wait until you start preparing your VAT returns and getting even more involved with Actinic.

          Good luck

Getting the price right..... and the VAT display

I've had the same problem with the VAT prices and the way they're displayed as many others. I'm not VAT registered so didn't even want any mention of it on the site. I've eventually managed to find a way to display the price without the "including VAT @" or "excluding VAT @" text after it, and also have the price I type in be the actual price shown. I'll try to explain: Firstly, make sure you've got your site backed up, just incase! Now, to get rid of the VAT text, go into the "Design" tab on the top menu bar, and scroll down to select the "text" option. This will open a new window. Select the "web site" tab at the top left of this window, then select the "shopping cart/receipt" tab. The first line of text on the left should be "excluding %". On the right, under where it says "prompt", highlight the text and delete it. Move down the list and find the one that says "including %" and do the same with that one. Once you've uploaded this change to your site, the VAT text normally shown after the price will not be visible, regardless of how you have your VAT setup.
Now if like me, you're not VAT registered, there's a really simple way to get rid of all mentions of VAT, even on the cart and checkout pages. Again, make sure your site os backed up before changing anything. Now go into the "View" menu on the top tool bar, and scroll down to select "business settings". A new window should open. Click on the "Tax" tab. Select the "Simple" method button. Now uncheck the "include tax 1" and, if necessary, the "include tax 2" button. Once you've uploaded this change to your site, all the prices that you enter will be the prices that are displayed.
Hope you can follow this, and hope it helps!

If anyone does need the excel formula to change gross prices into the nett price then use this, where A = cell reference of the cell containing the gross price.

If your price is shown in pounds and pence i.e. 10.99, then use this one:

              =round(Sum(A/1.175),2)*100

Actinic needs pricing in pence when importing

If your price is shown in pence i.e. 1099, then use this one:

              =round(Sum(A/1.175),2)

Once you have done the formula and all prices have changed, remember to COPY, then "paste value" so that the formulas are removed and the cell now contains the result of the formula, rather than the formula.

Depends how you've set Actinic up. If you have a feed to an account program such as Sage or Quickbooks, or if you expect to supply business, rather than retail customers, then this might not work, but otherwise try this:-

In "Business Settings|Tax" select "Simple" and don't select any Tax Options(ie leave all boxes unchecked). This will exclude VAT from all cacculations in Actinic, and you will have to calculate the VAT on orders received manually or through your accounting program.

In "Design|Options|Shop Defaults|Default Price Text" enter a text that indicates that prices include VAT.

That will work where you have only one option at one price for a product, but for products with different components/attributes/options at variable prices you will need to include the VAT inclusive message in
"Choice Details|HTML for Name" to display on the website.

Another option is to include text in
"Design|Options|Page Header/Footer" which states that all prices include VAT @ 17.5%. This will display at the top of every page in the Catalog.

You could also insert this information in your Terms & Conditions.

another method might be to select the vat inclusive price option then remove the visible text 'inclusive ....' from the template. Thats what we have done on one site, then the price you enter for the product is what is displayed and VAT is never mentioned or seen
