Please help, my site has been doing very well although I have not done all meta tags & keywords. All of a sudden I notice all of my pages when entering site:www.warmrooms.co.uk are only partially indexed although nothing has changed.

I have just got a SEO to help me out but am still very anxious. They have entered text within my Homepage (which is not built with Actinic), but still sceptical.

Am I doing the right thing, can you notice anything quite blatant I have done wrong on the Actinic side, I cant..........please help

Hi Brian,

with fear of upsetting your SEO guys I would question some of the homepage. The sitemap should really be to the Actinic generated map (which is linked from within the html link) as this is where your products need to be found. Ideally this link should also go on each of the product and brochure pages.

The homepage needs more organic links through to the products ie links with the name of the product in the link text. At the moment most of the links are taking people off site (all the very distracting shopping site logo's at the bottom of the page). The image on the homepage is crying out to be clickable. From an SEO and usability point it may be worth ditching the external homepage and using the Actinic generated one with good use of fragments to highlight key products, promotions etc.

Quite a few of the product had little to no product information against them let alone any keywords and descriptions at the section level. The product text really needs beefing up with quality rich keywords to give the search engines something to get their teeth into.

I would also look at some of the lengths of the section (page) names. Search engines seem to favour simpler URL's and it is also making your section lists very long and quite difficult to read when it is wrapping onto 2 and even 3 lines

I would ask for my money back. The home page is a blatent key word stuffing. It doe not have enough content, deep links, structure to be of any interest to a visitor let alone a search engine. The text links on the bottom link to pages run in frames with nowhere to go but close the site and as said there is no link to the Actinic site map.

Get rid of the SEO "expert" and stick with the Actinic home page. In terms of SEO your home page is possibly the least important - you can only really optimise one page for one keyword/phrase and you home page should be optimised for you business name. Other pages should be optimised for individual products - what your SEO "Expert" is trying to do is to get your home page to rank for every product in the shop!!

Has anyone ever found any benefit from having links to shopping directories on their front page.

I've always felt that it is only the directories which benefit from this practice, but I'd be interested to hear otherwise

There is no benefit - the only reason that certain directories apear to the front page is that it is a condition of them putting your site in thier directory, its as simple as that.

Others state that they must be only one click away from the front page while others say they must not be in links pages. They all have different terms and conditions which meet to be put in thier listings.

Just as annoying as having a link to the developers page as that site does - you would think the advert they have placed in the meta tags comments would be enough considering the customer is paying for their service and then paying to host their free advert!

Thank you to you all who have replied to my thread.

Please note the SEO people have not done the Home Page, somebody else did, how can I make better? The SEO 'JustSearching' have added a little bit of text within the Home Page, but little else - except for the URL list etc at the very bottom of the page? I am unsure how to add an Actinic site map link to my homepage, any hints/tips?

A few questions if you would be so helpful:-

1. Should I definitely remove the shopping links on the home page?

2. Malcolm - You mention 'the home page is a blatent key word stuffing', what do you mean and how would you recommend i change it?, I notice on your site you have a link to various engines and links companies, should i go through them, see if i am listed and if not subscribe? Do all of those ones you mention give reciprical links as I believe that some of the ones on my home page are not, hence all of my indexed pages are now not on Google, although i am not totally sure for the reason of all of these partially indexed pages. All I can find is my sitemap if i search for a specific term.

Whatever I type into Google, even if i copy one of my page titles I cannot find myself, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well I've just searched google for designer radiators uk and you're at No. 7 on the first page, so you must be doing something right.

just had a long chat with Brian and he does have some problems in terms of his site pages dropping off Google. Asked him to purge and refresh the site and told him to generate an Actinic home page with site map link. he will let us know how he gets on.
