Changing text colours in body copy

I have worked out how to use html in the body copy (thanks to the numerous posts) and have got quite carried away with myself! However, I cannot get the !!<>!! command to work. I have tried it with a simple colour ref e.g. font colour="red" and also with a reference that uses my logo colour "#c51e6c" but neither seem to work. I have managed to do bold, change sizes, underline, build in a link to another part of the site but this just doesn't seem to work. I have read posts about changing colours and this seems to be the way that is suggested is there something in the template commands that control text colour differently? I have a special offer panel on the home page and I'd like the text colour to be different from the standard colour.

Many thanks

I use span tags, like this:
Save: £5.00!

You don't need the span tags - just remember the internet is American and they spell it "color"
