    Speed Issues in Checkout

We run our site at www.saveonstore.co.uk and are having serious issues with speed in the checkout. We use Protx and Paypal for credit card processing, but both are exceptionally slow.

From the point you select the payment type and press next, it takes anything up to a couple of minutes to get to the payment pages. Once you are there and do the payment, it takes an age to get back to the receipt pages.

Strangely, if I change the settings to use Protx's test server, the speed issue goes away.

There is no customisation (Apart from a couple of txt comments) in the checkout. To check this the site is also at www.swanbusiness.co.uk/store/acatalog (Stripped down version of the store). This is a newly applied theme and has no customisation done at all.

Both versions of the site are on different servers, although they are the same provider. Both servers run on unix.

Any ideas / suggestions? Help much appreciated...

The payment pages would be served from the online payment provider and not your hosting server, so would check with the providers of the payment services to start with, plus speak with your host to see if they can identify any resolving issues with the PSPs concerned, i.e. maybe the PSPs have dynamic allocation of IPs for the services and the host is cacheing the location (which might be out of date) where the PSP might provide dynamic changing DNS information on where to go for the payment process element...

    Maybe.........
