index page not crawled

Hi
I looked at my logs, and it appears that only the acatalog folder is being crawled and not the index page. How can I remedy that? I am assuming this is because of the flat actinic folder structure of including everything in acatalog, except the index page which is outside. I do have a sitemap, and I have hard coded links in my site map to all the brochure pages including the index page.

I hard code all my brochure pages into Act_Primary below the normal Actinic generated navigation and don't bother about putting them in the sitemap. I also hard code my sitemap link into my brochure pages to reduce the crawl depth and make it easier for customers to get around.

Google will not necessarily crawl in full depth right away. You could also consider submitting a sitemap to Google.

Thanks for your reply..could you show me an example of what you are talking about...
I think I will put the sitemap at the bottom of each page as well as in the nav bar. I will also put a link to the index page in the catalog section..that should do it..

I see that you have 2 copies of index.html, the main one and the second one in /acatalog/index.html. How did you do that, just copy the main one to the second one? This could be usefull for me as when the crawlers crawl /acatalog/ they will eventually get to index.html. At the moment I just have index.html outside /acatalog/
I see where you have placed your links, and I am assuming that you put them in the act_primary.html.
You are using RSS..how is that going..I am experimenting with that..
Just curious, what theme are you using..I am using the smart theme..

I have two index.html pages yes, one in the domain root and one in acatalog, but not copies - they are slightly different so as not to duplicate my content - you'll see the similar fragments actually have different wording. I set my base page name in Design Options to index.html and also named my homepage as index.html.

Yes - I put the links in Act_Primary and all my variations of it that I use.

The RSS is easy to use and implement. I bought FeedForAll to generate my Feed - nice little app. As far as response and who's using it - I've no idea, I haven't checked in my logs for it as yet. I am going to implement some php code (from FeedForAll) to publish the xml feed by date so I can fill in the feeds I want in advance of publication - saves the extra work to maintain the feed.

I started off with the clean layout 13 (or 14 - not sure) and then saved it as a custom theme.

thanks..when you say that the second index.html is not a copy..how did you create it? Is it actually a section which you just named index.html? I thought that actinic does not like duplicate page names..

The homepage of my catalog is called index.htm - set in Design Options. The domain homepage is a brochure page called index.htm. I think Actinic only checks acatalog pages and brochure pages to be unique within themselves.

So in Actinic my 'shop' page name is set to index.htm and at the very top my homepage (brochure) is named index.htm - hope that makes sense.
