Combining prohucts to reduce price

Hi

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere before but...

I'm selling CD-ROMS's via my shop at £50 each.

I want to do a special offer. If customers buy two CD-ROM's they will be charged a total of £80, rather than £100. This offer only applies to two specified CD's bought together at the same time.

Any suggestions on how to accomplish this would be very welcome.

This is a nice one to do.

Do a right-click on one of your CD-ROMs and select 'New Component' give the component a name which is the same as the other CD-ROM.

Double-click on the component and tick 'Is Optional'. In the 'HTML for Name' enter something like 'Buy this CD-ROM with the other CD-ROM for only £80'.

In the 'Associated Product' drop-down, select your other CD-ROM and in teh 'Price' field, enter '£30'.

Click OK, and then go into your first CD-ROM product and change the 'Pricing Model' field to 'Sum of Product and Component Prices'.

You can then repeat the process with the other CD ROM.

Another way to do this would be create a component within the CD product and link it to a hidden product - set the pricing model to sum of component pricing and set the component to use the linked product price and then add price breaks for the hidden product, price for 1 = 50, price for 2 = 80. Do the same for the second CD rom, linking it to the same product. Then add the same price break information to the main CD product (this makes the price display correct on the catalog). If you really only have two CDs that would qualify for a discount then Chris's method would do but this method is great when you have lots of products - it is buy one get one free solution (but only for same priced products).
