    Upload Error

I have recently had to refresh my all my site using the ftp part of the programme.

Right at the end of the upload process I got a 404 error. "A server error occurred while attempting to merge server files. 404 Not found"

The ftp details on my site have not changed at all from the ones my ISP gave me when I originally uploaded the site onto it some time ago.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be wrong please?

The version I have is V 4.1.1.0.0.4 CBXA

About 18 months ago I uploaded the latest patches, including a security patch, and this is what I have been using since then.

    David,

This could hav happened because of a time out or such on the server. Have you tried doing a refresh of the site again? I would suggest doing it from Web | Refresh Website.

      Upload Error

      Hi Bruce

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have already tried that.

At first I did an upload in the normal way, then after re-reading the help files did a refresh of the site. Although the 'refresh' did upload every file (I think) onto my server, when it came to checking and merging files after setting the permissions, - well, that's when the 404 error came up.

        David,

I would suggest a purge and refresh in this case. Note : If you have modified scripts or templates, please make a backup of these before attempting this. Go into Advanced | Troubleshooting | Clisck on "Purge and refresh website". The modified scripts and templates will have to be FTP'ed seperately to the 'acatalog' and 'cgi-bin'. Let us know how it goes.

        Kind regards,

          Upload Error

          Bruce

I don't have any modified templates, and if memory serves me correctly the only alteration to the original V4.0 software has been the addition of hte security patch I mentioned earlier.

Before I do the purge and refresh could I just ask if this security patch and the V4.1 would consistute newe scripts which I would have to upload via ftp?

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated as my site is currently looking a bit sick!!

          Cheers
          David

            Just realised Bruce

the only part of my version of the software which has purge and refresh is under either housekeeping>purge>purge catalogue
            or web>refresh website

Are these the areas you were directing me to?

              Hi David,

In case you have the latest version of Actinic (v 7.0.2 or higher),
you could go to 'Help | Troubleshooting | Website Purge and Refresh'

But, I understand that you are running Actinic version 4.1.1.0.0.4 CBXA and there is NO such option available.

Please follow the steps below to do it manually:

              1. Within your local PC, please go to 'C:\Program Files\Actinic ecommerce v4\Sites\Site1' or whatever your site is called

              2. Delete all the .pl and .pm and .cat and .fil files

              3. Go to the folder 'C:\Program Files\Actinic ecommerce v4\Original' and copy the .pl and .pm and paste them back into your Site1 folder

              4. Now, log into your FTP server and delete .cat, .fil from 'acatalog' folder

              5. Similarly, delete .pl and .pm files from the 'cgi-bin' folder

              6. Once you have done this, just refresh your website completely ('Web | Refresh Website').

              Hope this helps.
              Cheers,
              Suresh Babu G

                Hi David,

Sorry for that, must have had my head stuck in the v7 cloud when answering that one... Suresh has given you what to do.

                Cheers,

                  Hi Suresh and Bruce

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you both. I have started to try and follow your instructions but find that there appears to be some discrepancy with what you are asking me to do and what I have in the file structure on my PC.

The .pl, .pm, .cat and .fil files are where you say they should be in CProg Files\ActinicV4\Sites\Site 1 - so no problem there.

The structure for the pasting part C:\Prog files\ActinicV4\Original does not contain a Site1 folder.

The only place I can find one is within a folder called Backup to V4.1.1.CBXA which has both Original and Site1 as separate folders.(C:\Programme Files\Actinic ecommerce V4\backupV4.1.1.0 CBXA\site1) - but this folder contains only a very few of the files found in the Site1 folder mentioned above.

I have attached a screen shot of the file folder structure to give you some idea of what I have been trying to explain.

Before trying to follow your instructions I would be grateful if you could throw any light on the above.

                  many thanks
                  David

                    David,

I think you misunderstood step 3 on Suresh's instructions ..
                    3. Go to the folder 'C:\Program Files\Actinic ecommerce v4\Original' and copy the .pl and .pm and paste them back into your Site1 folder
He is asking you to copy the .pl and .pm files from the 'Original' folder and paste them into the 'Site1' folder from where you earlier had deleted the files.

This is done to ensure that a fresh copy of the original scripts are used instead of a bunch of scripts that could possibly be corrupted.

                    Kind regards,
                    Bruce King

                      Hi Bruce

Thanks for pointing out the error or my stupidity - in such a kind way!! There are some people who should not be allowed near a computer! I think I am one of them.

I've followed the instructions but still get the following error when I try to access the shop.

"The requested URL /acatalog/index.html was not found on this server."

When I looked at the ftp version of the site on the server I found that the index page is in the following folder.

                      /var/www/cgi-bin/acatalog

the first part of the path /var/www/ is the one dictated to me by my ISP and the path I put into the ftp part of Actinic. Nothing in this part of the setup has changed since it was working correctly - on the premise that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' I never altered or tinkered with the configuration.

But, judging from the error above it seems not to be finding the index page, though it really is there.

Before I tear out the rest of my rapidly thinning hair, do you have any suggestions please?

                      David

                        David,

I would suggest you mail me your Network Settings. If you go into Advanced | Network Setup and look on the right hand side, you will 'Export' click on this to export your setting to a file. Save this file to your desktop and then email it to me as an attachment @ bksupport@actinic.co.uk, please mention the thread number.

                        Kind regards,
                        Bruce King

Have you had any luck yet with the server?

                            Deseperte Measures

                            Hi Bruce

I'm getting desperate. I am now considering deleting the entire site from the server, and then reloading it from Actinic afresh.

do you think this will get over the problem - whatever the problem is?

I carried out all the instructions which Suresh laid out for me but it has not achieved anything. My business is dying on its feet.

                            David

                              David,

I had replied to your mail to me offline with some suggestions on the Network Settings. Does the Network Settings test go through OK now? Without the settings passing the test, you will not be able to upload the site using Actinic. I will resend the email to you once I am at office.

                              Kind regards,
