    Hi Bruce

I don't appear to have had your reply. Thanks for offering to send it again. I have managed to get the site visible agian - the problem with the index file is now fixed, but when I try to purchase anything then the error comes up that it cannot find the cgi-bin. Maybe your advice on the settings will cure it.

    Cheers
    David

        Glen,

I would suggest raising an email ticket @ http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm. Support will need your network settings to be able to test and check the issue for you.

        Kind regards,

          Hi Bruce

Not got the settings you spoke about in your last posting, though I have tried to test the network settings in actinic.

The whole thing stalled when it got to the cgi test.

Can you let me have the settings you spoke about in the mail so I can take it further?

          cheers

            David,

This is the message I sent you
Can I have you FTP details please, I promise to only look at the folder setup on the server as there is a mistake with the path to the cgi-bin. You have sent me a settings that goes..
            /var/www/cgi-bin/acatalog/

            But should actually read

            /var/www/cgi-bin/

same for the Path from cgi-bin to acatalog folder as Viewed by the FTP server.

Unless I have the FTP password I will not be able to FTP to the site to see how it should actually reflect in the settings.
I still have not received the FTP password from you so could not go any further.

            Kind regards,
            Bruce King

                Hi Bruce

Just had a reply from my ISP this morning. They are asking me to check the scripts generated by the software as when they tried a test, it worked with the user name they were usig.

Is there some script which the software generates which could be causing the problem?

I have also tried to change the Path to CGI which you suggested I change. When I changed it (deleting the /acatalog) the network settings simply put it back in!! Driving me mad!!

                  SUCCESS!!!!
                  Hi Bruce

Finally got the problem sorted out. It was the mail server you referred to. For some reason it didn't like the one I have been using for the past year and is now happy with the one form my site.

Thanks for your help over the weeks, it looks like it should be plain sailing now.

                  Cheers

                    Hi Bruce

                    I spoke too soon!

Last night I tried to alter a bit on the site. First of all using the normal upload button - gave me an error message saying the FTP connection had failed - possibly due to lack of space on the site. Not so.

Next I tried to refresh the site. this time I had an error message similar then when I clicked on teh continue button it uploaded everythign, but at the end gave me an error message saying that X number of files had been expected, but Y number of files had been located.

Finally this morning I had three e mails to an unusual address which I have not had before. don't know if it is connected or if there is something being generated by the site when an order fails.

                    The address is failed sales@missingbritain.com

All three came from different addresses, and all looked to be genuine.

I will try and give you more information on this if I get the chance today, but I'm scratching my head a bit now.

Bruce. Just sent an e mail to the address contained in the e mail and it has been returned as user unknown, so perhaps it is nothing to do with the stite.

                    Cheers
                    David

                      David,

I would check to see if the email address you are using in Business Settings | company Contact is a valid one. Check with the Hosting company if the addres you are using is valid with teh new smtp server add they gave you.

                      Kind regards,

this is becoming more bizarre by the minute.

Today I received a notification that an order had been place don my site - something which has not happened for months since I moved to the new server.

There was an order on the site!!

I tried to make a couple of small changes and still got the same error message as before, so it would appear that the e mail addresses are valid. I am still struggling to find out what the problem is though it is still telling me it expects X number of files and is finding Y number of files.

                            Hi Bruce

When uploading the site (after making a few minor alterations) I got right to the end of the upload process where it starts to merge the files.

I then had the error message
"An error occurred whilst merging files on remote site. Diff file checksum errror. Calculated 3117908 Expected 3255886"

                            Does this make sense?
