    Side Bar Images

This is probably a simple one for most of you.......so no laughing

How do I get images into the side bars? I'm using the 'Smart Theme' and have been in and out of Dreamweaver for the last few hours......can I get an image in there? Not on your nelly!!

    Cheers

You will need to edit the 3 main primary templates .... Act_Primary.html ... Act_PrimaryCheckout.html and Act_BrochurePrimary.html under Dreamweaver and you can simply drag and drop the images accordingly.

The above templates are in the root of the site1 folder and NOT any pages in the PreviewHTML folder. Make a backup of the original template before doing any work.

You can also add in under Design | Options | Site Defaults | Proprties and use one of the LEFTBARTEXT fields etc to insert an <img> tag and tick the "use filename" optin box ... but that is not a very neat option IMHO

Well, I thought I had it sorted. I've opened up the Act_Primary.html file situated in the site 1 folder in Dreamweaver (did a backup copy of it first) added the image but the image is still not showing up when I preview the site.

        1) Do I need to edit all the templates before the image is shown?
        2) Will it make a difference because it's an animated gif I'm trying to use?
        3) Will I need to make changes to the LEFTBARTEXT/TITLE fields?

        Thank you for your time

If the image is not stored in the root of the site folder you will need to place a copy into the PreviewHTML folder to view offline.

The image is stored in the Site 1 Folder, along with the Act_Primary.html file. I've also included a copy of the image in the PreviewHTML folder. Both the image in the Site 1 Folder and the PreviewHTML folder have the same name but I still can't get it to show up in preview mode

            Sorry for all the trouble.

Are you focussed on a product when doing the preview? If on a brochure and you have not modified the Act_BroshurePrimary it will not show.

I assume it is previewing fine under Dreamweaver (other than all the NETQUOTEVAR errors)?

My images don't work in preview mode, but do once the site is uploaded. (never really understood why).

I did manage to get them to work, but then they didn't work when the site was uploaded.

I settled for looking at a little red cross when in preview mode.

                Hope it helps

I'm focussed on the Home Page when in preview mode but I've checked to see if it shows when previewing the brochure. I'm afraid it dosen't. Like you say, it does show up in Dreamweaver but with all the NETQUOTEVAR errors

I'll check what I've done again just to make sure.

                  Thanks for you help

You need to focus on a product as per my previous post - the home page is a brochure page and not controlled by the Act_Primary template

Olly - this is due to a paths error - other than product images you are best keeping all images in the root of the site1 folder. Depending on how the image has been places HTML or CSS you may also need to place a copy into the PreviewHTML folder to preview the page off-line.

If you are still getting a red cross when on the server type the name of the image into the url eg:

                      Code:
                      www.site.co.uk/acatalog/image.gif
and see if it can be found. If not it may need uploading via Actinic - go to Advanced | Additional Files and select the image there - it will then be uploaded to the /acatalog/ folder for the browser to view.

                      HTH

I've put the image in the Act_BrochurePrimary.html and the Act_Primary.html. The image is stored in the Site 1 folder and I've put a copy of it in the PreviewHTML folder. The image still does not show in either the product pages or the home page

Am I missing something here jont? Apart from a slap about the face

Not missing anything that should work - the only other thing I can think of is you are editing the wrong version of the template - under Design | Options | Layouts click on the edit button next to the templates and see if it opens the templates you have been adding the images into.

Am I right in thinking that I should be looking for the image file I've inserted in the code shown? If so I've just hood a look through each one and the image file dosen't show up. I've got most of the options in that list set to 'Sidebar down left hand side' would that be a problem?

Okay......continuing to twiddle about here. If I insert an image below one of the side bars (sidebar left/right) the image shows in preview. But still can't get it to work if inserted into the sidebar itself?

If that makes any sense at all?
