Please can you help me find the unsecure item

Hi all,

If anyone has got a moment or two, could you have a look to see what might be causing the unsecure item warning when you cancel out of the checkout process (the same thing happens immediately after logging in to an account as well) on our site. I've been trying to find it for ages with no success.

I just had a quick look David. Not sure what it is but it only occurs in IE not FF.
Might help track the problem down.

There is a browser setting in IE6 to turn this off (not sure of earlier browsers). Check out Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level > Miscellaneous > Display mixed content. By default its set to prompt, reset it to Enable and the message disappears.

Not sure how you deal with this in the field though - where you will come across mixed user settings... especially as the default is 'Prompt'

In IE - Tools | Internet Options | Advanced - right at the bottom in the Security group - Warn if changing between secure and nonsecure mode.

A personal setting, so not everyone will see it.

Actually, after mulling this over, my original question wasn't really as clear as it should have been and as such has only been partly answered, i.e. we've figured out why some people are getting alerts and some are not.

What I need to know is which page is providing these mixed items and if they can be changed, how?

I did not receive any warning when entering the checkout using Firefox.
What I did notice was that you have a couple of images on the first checkout page (thats as far a I went).
At the top is a Geotrust logo, and at the bottom are the credit card logo's.
It could be that if these images are not held on the secure server, but are referenced elsewhere, and that this is causing a non-secure item warning.
Even if these images are stored on your secure server, it may be worth experimenting with losing them, and see if that stops the warnings

Tried creating orders and cancelling out of the checkout in Firefox, Opera and IE.

Only IE reports a problem, and it is when you move out of the secure checkout area and back to the nonsecure catalog referrer page. I have IE set to NOT warn on moving from secure to nonsecure, so it is not that. The checkout page opens initially without throwing an error, so it is not images on the checkout (sorry, Martin), and there is no reason for anyone to care about something on the catalog referrer page not being secure, so it must be Internet Explorer misshandling something again.

Thanks for the help guys, I guess I'll just have to put it down to "one of those things" and not let it bother me. At least it only happens when you're canceling from the checkout (and after login in), so it shouldn't be scaring any customers off. I guess we'll see what happens when IE 7 comes out.
