    Do we need SSL?

    Hi,
I'm wondering whether we need a separate SSL server on our site. Or does actinics secured shopping card suffice as far as customers perception of safety goes?

We may also be using paypal as an option. Is it possible to use both?

    thanks

I personally would not buy from a software encrypted site despite the level of security suposedly offered - I like to see the padlock in the browser status bar and not on the page.

Who are you hosting with? You may have the access rights to used shared SSL which is a step in the right direction.

There are several threads already about the pro's and con's of PayPal - some see it as added service whereas some see it as appearing like a bedroom operation! Users are funny people

You need a secure site for payment, this may be done by using the PSP providers safe site i.e. Worldpay or Protx and other simular sites, just make sure to tell people that the payment side is secure and they will see the padlock when asked for credit card details

The other option is to take the card details yourself, in which case you will need your own SSL, for the difference in money it seems silly not to have your own rather than a shared one

You can have as many options as you want but remember most will have a monthly fee if you use them or not so maybe wise to limit it to just a couple

Loads of info on the PSP's available on this site if you go to the search button

      Best of luck

        thank you both.

jont - i was looking at hositing with clook. i'm not sure if they do shared SSL access, i'll have a check. can you recomment any hosting company that is good, knows actinic and does shared SSL?

chris - thanks for the pointers, i'll have a look at this site for PSP info.

Do a search on hosting in the forum as several members provide hosting including pinbrook and techno-web. I do not use either but hear good reports about both.

we don't do shared SSL as we can do your own for virtually the same price.
