    Actinic on Fasthosts Linux

Has anyone recently set up their site on the above? I previously had another site on their Windows Home package but because I've swapped to Actinic Catalog I was advised to change to their Linux Developer Package. This I did this morning and was wondering if there's a bedding in period before the domain will be fully operational? As I'm having quite a few problems trying to get my catalogueup there

    Thanks for your time

Some people have had problems but Chris Ashdown seems to have got it working. See post #10 in this thread: http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=15549

Okay......nearly worked. I'm now ending up with:

'Unable to move to the cgi-bin directory "/htdocs/cgi-bin/" on the FTP server.
The specified directory does not exist or you do not have access to the directory'

        Any ideas?

I tried to get Actinic & (with ssl) to work on Fasthosts and basically gave up after spending hours trying to resolve the situation and getting nowhere except increasing my blood pressure level !

My personal advice would be to host your site with one of the recommended hosting providers as per the actinc website. These people specialise in actinic so know what they are talking about and the support will be much better than that of large hosting companies who know very little about actinic etc

Sorry that I can not be on any further assistance and good luck !

Most of it seems to be up and running with the exception of some of the network paths. Can you export your network settings and copy/paste them into the forum so we can take a look. Remember to edit over your username and pasword.

                Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I know what you mean......it's being a pain at the moment. I was already using Fasthosts for the site (Pre Actinic) but after purchasing Actinic Catalog told them what I was planning to do and they advised me to switch to the Linux Developer Package instead (I was originally on their Windows Home Package) so you'd think that everything would be okay.

I've now managed to get some of the site uploaded at www.ecclestonanglingcentre.co.uk but it's not fully operational. During the upload procedure I'm now getting:

"The path from the cgi-bin to the acatalog directory is not correct.
It appears as if the acatalog directory does not exist on the remote host.
Possible Cause: The path from the cgi-bin to the acatalog directory is not correct. The acatalog directory has been removed or renamed."

At the moment I'm trying a number of configurations to get the path to the cgi-bin......but I'm not having much luck.

                Anyway......thanks for your time

Okay......I'm not sure, but the problem seemed to be the paths:

Path from cgi-bin to actalog (../acatalog/)
Path from cgi-bin as viewed (../actalog/)

I suppose my next step is to see if I can set up ssl. Not looking forward to that at all

Have you used the Wizard under the Web menu option to see if it can resolve the path for you?

                      Hi,

Everything seems to be working ok.....my next step is to sort out the ssl option for the checkout pages.......fingers crossed

Just stuck on the 'check out' pages now. If someone would be prepared to look at the site at www.ecclestonanglingcentre.co.uk Maybe you've come across this problem before?

                        Thanks for your time

I had MAJOR problems with fasthosts and customer support were useless. Verio had great servers but very expensive and support was not brilliant, so im now with a new u.s. company and the server takes whatever I throw at it, support is great and its as cheap as chips.

Only downside is bandwidth is not too great

I have found the whole server thing to be a mixture of 'get what you pay for', 'dont get what you pay for' 'get sort of half what you pay for'.

Took weeks to get a refund from fasthosts too
                          Kind regards,

                          Michael

I think I'm probably just one step away from getting the thing to work!! Just can't get the ssl checkout page to operate

                            Yeah.....probably the most important part

As you say the cgi-bin is now working properly. If you export the network settings and copy/paste them here then there's a good chance someone will be able to help you.
