Actinic on Fasthosts Linux

Still not heard back from Fasthosts but I seem to be making a little more progress. I've ended up unchecking the SSL option in business settings.......highlighting 'credit card details captured for later processing' and clicking configure method.......clicking shared SSL in there.....the filling in the unlisted provider option.

I now get to the checkout page.....fill in all the details.....but just fall short when it comes to the page where a customer enters their card info. But at least I'm now getting the padlock icon in the browser page

Does this ring any bells with anyone? Anyone able to help me over the last hurdle?

fast host only works if your site is all in ssl

and you need to use the shared SSL url
and not https://www.ecclestonanglingcentre.co.uk/

Well that's a bit of a bummer!! Prior to swapping server I was in touch with Fasthosts to tell them exactly what I was upto and made a point of telling them that I was intending to use Actinic Catalog. They told me to upgrade from their Windows Package to their Linux Developer Package.

I hope this is not the case

If you are using a PSP (Protx - even Paypal) they provide security on the pages where sensitive information is transmitted. You could undo the SSL settings, test the remaining Network setup, and continue in a positive direction while you wait for issue and installation of a site-wide certificate.

Yeah, I've managed to set-up payment via personal cheque and Paypal but I receive most of my orders from customers using credit cards.

I've still not heard back from Fasthosts.......think I'm going to give them a call later. It can't be the case that they've advised me to upgrade to a package that won't run Actinic Catalog???? I hope not

Adding Protx to take credit card payments will cost you GBP20.00 plus VAT for up to 1000 transactions per month. You would then be fully operational.

Or you can buy an SSL certificate which covers your entire site and have the host configure it (including the symbolic links) for less than six months worth of Protx (but that leaves you looking for a processing method and security concerns on the storage of the data you are collecting).

Fasthosts tech review for SSL & Actinic

It's true, fasthosts will need the whole site on the ssl space. Through experience this causes the site to run slow.
We have a dedicated fasthosts Linnux server and have now given up with the notion of using the fasthosts shared ssl in favor for the actinic shared space which will just protect the checkout pages.

There are many companies which can provide you with your own whole site SSL certificate. Look around on your host for information, search the internet, you'll find all you need.

What's frustrating is that I informed them of what I was planning (creating a site with Actinic Catalog) and they specifically told me to upgrade to their Linux Developer package as this would be ideal for my situation. I was told "no way, give it back and use cpi instead right now", quite insistent they were too ! Wish I could have my terminal back, tap tap tap and its done.

there ssl does not use the same webspace (they use 10mb on some webspace some where that very crap) ie the shared ssl domain is not on the same ip
ie on a good shared ssl
you temp domain is for exp:-htttp://82.123.62.82/yourdomain.co.uk/
this then goes to your home page if this was your ip address.
you may get in is your welcome e-mail so on

all they do then is reg a ssl domain on that ip address like www.ssl.com
so you can then https://www.ssl.com/yourdomain.co.uk/
and get all your websit files in ssl
but your would need to setup all your files in the public_html part so the ssl could see it ie your also need to setup your cgi-bin in ther to, if its dir is out side it, it will not work and your will need to call it ssl-cgi-bin and not cgi-bin and put it in the public_html so on.
